CANKTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Third-grade students at Cankton Elementary made magnetic slime and observed its properties to wrap up a science unit on magnetic forces.
Kindergarten students at Cankton Elementary made spider web crafts. Students made webs after learning about how and why spiders make their webs.
After reading Officer Buckle and Gloria, Cankton Elementary second grade students were visited by the Opelousas Police Department K9 unit. The officer demonstrated how the highly skilled dogs are used to support law enforcement efforts.

New Jr Beta members from Eunice Junior High School were inducted during a ceremony on October, 23, 2018 and returning members were recognized for their continued academic excellence. Thank you to their sponsors: Mrs. Fran Lemelle, Ms. Claudette Castille, and Mrs. Lauren Brown.

Eunice Junior High School celebrated Red Ribbon Week Wednesday with the slogan "I Can, You Can be drug-free". Students brought in donations of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Eunice Food Bank. Wesley F. brought a caterpillar he found to school. He placed it in the container with leaves and a stick. It transformed into a cocoon, then hatched into a Monarch Butterfly. Wesley and his classmates charted the progress. The butterfly was released today.
Glendale students and staff were invited to dress up for “Red Ribbon Week”. Monday was “Peace Out To Drugs.” Pictured are 1st-grade student Garrett H. and Learning center teacher Mrs. Lynda Perrodin.

Glendale Kindergarten students went on a field trip to see the “Gone Wild Safari”. Students were able to see different animals and feed them.

Glendale teachers held a door decorating contest for Red Ribbon Week. Pictured is Mrs. Laura Francois and her 4th-grade class who won 1st place. They were awarded a certificate and will also be treated to a pizza party for the class. Congratulations!

Mrs. Davis of Grand Coteau Elementary had town workers and volunteers come in to help set up her new classroom furniture. The old desks were replaced with tables. WOW!!!, what a difference they make!!!

Red Ribbon Week is off to a wonderful start at Highland! Monday's theme was: "Team Up Against Drugs!" Tuesday's theme was: "Drug-Free from Head to Toe" where everyone was able to dress with Crazy Hair and socks. We definitely had some wacky hair and funny socks!
Officer Dunn with the Eunice PD and his sidekick, Robin, came to visit with Highland for Red Ribbon Week... The students truly enjoyed having their questions answered and seeing Robin at work!
Pair Up Against Drugs... There were LOTS of twins spotted around Highland! Even a set of triplets and pink poodles were spotted!

1st quarter Honor Roll students at Palmetto Elementary were treated to a special Honor Roll breakfast. We are an Eat, Move, Grow school so their breakfast consisted of yogurt, a multigrain bar, a fruit cup, and milk or juice.
A HUGE THANK YOU to the town of Palmetto for helping out with grass cutting while Mr. Darren recovers from shoulder surgery!

The children in Ms Martin and Ms Tanner's class are identifying parts of a tree.
Ms. Cane and Mrs. Johnson’s Early Head Start class explored pumpkins. They had the chance to see and feel the inside of a pumpkin. They also got the chance to color aprons with their parents and wear those aprons while painting their pumpkins the color of their choice.
The children at Lebeau Head Start/Early Head Start enjoyed Art Day and Birthday Party with their parents.

Recently, the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities was gifted with a donation in First Lady Donna Edwards’ honor to support the arts in education.
To kick things off, First Lady Donna Edwards invited each region to a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion. Superintendent Jenkins had the privilege of being one of the guests.
Kelly Andrepont, Lana Duvall, and I (Math Instructional Specialists) presented two sessions (Informing Your Math Instruction via the Companion Document for Teachers & The Area Model for Division—A Hands-on Start) at the LATM/LSTA joint Math and Science Conference in Shreveport. The sessions were well-attended and well-received.
