Eunice Junior High School celebrated Red Ribbon Week Wednesday with the slogan "I Can, You Can be drug-free". Students brought in donations of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Eunice Food Bank. Wesley F. brought a caterpillar he found to school. He placed it in the container with leaves and a stick. It transformed into a cocoon, then hatched into a Monarch Butterfly. Wesley and his classmates charted the progress. The butterfly was released today.

Mrs. Davis of Grand Coteau Elementary received a grant from WalMart. Her second-grade students enjoy their brand new furniture, which is especially useful for the new chrome books they are using. The whole class seems more spacious with the new furniture.

Red Ribbon Week is off to a wonderful start at Highland! Monday's theme was: "Team Up Against Drugs!" Tuesday's theme was: "Drug-Free from Head to Toe" where everyone was able to dress with Crazy Hair and socks. We definitely had some wacky hair and funny socks!

To kick things off, First Lady Donna Edwards invited each region to a luncheon at the Governor’s Mansion. Superintendent Jenkins had the privilege of being one of the guests.

Kelly Andrepont, Lana Duvall, and I (Math Instructional Specialists) presented two sessions (Informing Your Math Instruction via the Companion Document for Teachers & The Area Model for Division—A Hands-on Start) at the LATM/LSTA joint Math and Science Conference in Shreveport. The sessions were well-attended and well-received.
