FROM THE PRINCIPAL...TONY WHITE
"That's a good kid!" "What a good kid!" We've all said it, but I'm really working hard to get this phrase out of my vernacular. This is for the simple reason that I realize there are no "bad kids." When we call a child a "good kid," what we're really saying is that he or she is kind, polite, hard-working, empathetic, respectful, funny, and the list goes on and on. So, why not be specific in our praise of the child? Conversely, if we don't call a child a "good kid," what message does that unintentionally send and what impact does that have on his or her perceptions of themselves? Let's take the time to tell our Eagles precisely what we find so likable and lovable about them. They'll appreciate it so much more than being called a "good kid" too because we took the time to see them and recognize them.
Last night, we had a small but mighty group of parents and Eagles come out for our "Resilience" night. I would call it a success, and now we have some ambassadors you can check in with to learn more about the film and its powerful message. We will host another "Resilience" night in the future. If you were not able to attend yesterday evening's event, please, stay tuned in the near future for more information about our next one.
It looks like rain this weekend, Norton Creek, but that won't stop us from enjoying ourselves! Have a wonderful weekend!
