IBJ Family Updates for the Week of May 15, 2023
Principal Corner
Ira B. Jones Families:
We have 19 days of school left!
Thanks, All, for showing love and appreciation to our teachers/staff last week for Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week. They deserve all the appreciation and gratitude we can give them for their dedication and commitment to our Global Scholars and families.
Also, thanks for attending the Spring Fling on Friday. What a great event! It was well attended, fun, and an excellent way for our school community to come together before the end of this school year. I appreciate our FTO's hard work and dedication to pulling an event like this together. Everyone had fun!
LEAF Global Artists Boukman Eksperyans (Haitian rhythms, soul, and reggae) and Billy Jonas (family-oriented music and
rhythms) visited a few of our music classes last week. This was another opportunity for our students to take the next step toward becoming global citizens and leaders. These students will be able to participate in the LEAF Festival this weekend.
A few reminders:
- We have 3.5 weeks of school left. The last quarter of the school year tends to be busy and requires our students to be even more engaged, attentive, and present.
- Please continue to check the communication between your child's teacher and school. Many events will happen, and we don't want you to miss out on anything. For example, we will have a schoolwide talent show and dance party on the last day of school!
- The last quarter of the school year will include several assessments our students must take, including End of Grade Testing (EOGs) for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. We will send testing information and dates soon.
- Lastly, continue to review school behavior expectations with your students. I appreciate your support in this area.
I invite you to visit our school's website and Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/irabjones/ and follow us on Twitter @Principal_IBJ and Instagram @IraB.JonesElementary. These will serve as a resource tool for all upcoming events, the student/family handbook, and important reminders, and you can catch up with all the wonderful things our students and teachers are doing.
As a school leader and a parent, I understand the necessity of healthy communication between families and the school. I welcome your questions, celebrations, or concerns at any time. You can reach me by calling the school at 828.350.6700 or emailing me at ruafika.cobb@acsgmail.net.

Also, we will start putting the items out front so parents can check for lost items.

CogAT Updates - A Message from Mr. Pruett
Thanks so much to everyone that made our administration of the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) a huge success! All elementary schools are now done, and materials will ship to the Riverside testing company to score next week.
Scoring for the testing should take 2-3 weeks plus a few for shipping. Our best case scenario is to share the results by the end of the year.
CogAT results will include information about the verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal subtests and will be used in formal qualification for AIG (Academically - Intellectually Gifted) services and other instances. Such qualification will take place at the first of the 2023-24 school year.
Please contact john.pruett@acsgmail.net with any questions.
Thanks again!
