The Titan Way - Respectful Language, Attitude and Actions
I know it is a difficult time right now as we move into March after hearing about the budget cuts. I will do my best to handle this situation with grace and dignity. I will also work with staff leadership to develop a plan for addressing our needs. In the meantime, I am working on a number of different grants and financial opportunities for our school. I will also do my best to explain the budget situation to the students as they have asked for an explanation. I have explained to them that we have a moving budget that does not meet fiscal obligations and I will do everything I can to support our community. I have spoken with the administration team as we are also being affected with budget notifications. We truly are in this together and let's focus on us and see what we can do navigate this situation.
Thank you again to everyone for being an amazing staff. The assembly this week exemplifies our strong community. I was in awe of the students, the staff and our VAPA programs. I can't say enough about our Titan spirit and community.
I have been asked by FAC members to consider releasing Fridays back to the PLCs. We do have one last Friday we need to meet to discuss Intervention Planning and Data analysis. I plan to have this meeting after we meet with the SLT (we are planning for this meeting to take place this Friday). We also need time for planning for the Titan Showcase.
Let's get to some main points for the week.
A. SLT Meeting. I am inviting the SLT and the Department Chairs to meet this Friday to discuss the following... Data Analysis, Common Syllabus Update, WASC Planning, Master Schedule and Titan Showcase.
B. Titan Showcase. Please plan accordingly. Mr. Banuelos will provide updates on expectations. Please plan with your PLC where you would like to highlight your group.
C. Titan Weight Room and the Eastlake Education Foundation - Titan Foundation. We are planning an all out blitz to raise funds for a new facility. The Eastlake Education Foundation is close to moving into school facilities. They will be assisting with the big picture of raising funds for the whole school, but will be stepping in to help with the weight room and locker rooms. I hope you will consider joining in with your input and support.
D. WASC Update. We shift our attention to WASC this March. A huge component of our WASC will be around our evaluation of school goals and progress. Please be involved in the dialogue as we implement our strategies.
E. Next SSA Training. Our trainer had to postpone the training to March. We are still looking for about 20 fabulous freshmen and 20 super sophomore to participate in the next Safe School Ambassador training on March 11-12. We need a well-rounded group of students. Please feel free to give us your suggestions (email Mark Brickley). Please submit those names as soon as possible. We are also looking for about 4-5 staff members interested in the two day training. If you are interested, please let Mr. Brickely know as well.
F. PD Opportunities. There are still opportunities to attend PDs. Let me and Karina know if you are interested in these great opportunities.
Building the Restorative Classroom
Participants will learn practical strategies for building a restorative environment in the classroom. Training will focus on relationship building, the 4 Essential Elements of the Restorative Classroom, responding to challenging behavior, and taking care of ourselves so we can effectively do this work. We recommend that participants have completed “Introduction to Restorative Practices” training.
