URCEO Family Newsletter
December 2020
Dear Families,
We are already into the 4th week of the second term and in less than two weeks, we will be breaking for the holidays! I'm excited about the positive changes we are seeing and hearing from our students and we know the next month will be critical in our school's and our students' success. Our Title I interventions will begin, you will see that we will be focusing on improving our attendance school-wide, and hopefully, we will be able to open the school to more students for those who are interested.
Thank you to all of our families that took part in conferences last month! Our goal was to meet with all our families. We reached 94%, so if you did not have a conference, do not be surprised to get a call from one of our teachers! And if you expected a call and did not get one, please reach out to me so we can get you connected!
We are definitely in the midst of cold and virus season, so I want to reshare the importance of rest when we are not well. Even though our students' classrooms are in their home, it's vital that they be given time and space to recuperate if they are not well. Please report absences as needed. You can either contact the teacher directly or call the school 541.830.6660 (Press 7) to report an illness that keeps your child from participating for the day.
I want you to know that the Eagle Point High School student leadership team in partnership with the Rotary Club is providing family meal boxes complete with a ham for the holidays. If your family is interested, please call Mrs. Smith at 541.830.6721 so you can be added to the list. There is a limited supply, so I encourage you to let us know ASAP.
On a final note, I look forward to welcoming our school family back on Monday, January 4th. SynchMeetings will be held as usual and there will be surprise announcements throughout the day, so your students will not want to miss being in class! Be sure to charge up those iPads over the first weekend of 2021!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Green

December Attendance Celebrations
We are asking families to commit to attending all Monday and Thursday SynchMeets 🖥 and to ensure students demonstrate attendance on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We are planning special social events for Friday, December 11th & 18th!
On December 11th, if we have met the district attendance goal for the week, we are offering a special Winter Story Hour with games for students. If we beat the district goal, we will be adding Hot Cocoa Kits to our Winter Story Hour on the 18th!
We will announce weekly attendance results on Friday mornings at 9 A.M.
📗 The Zoom link to connect for Story Hour will be shared on the 11th in your child's Canvas classroom. We will announce if we beat the district goal, and if so, students will be invited to bring their favorite snuggly item to the Story Hour and come in PJs or their comfy clothes.
☕️ Cocoa kits would be distributed on Thursday, December 17th at URCEO if we are consistently exceeding the district goal on Wednesday, Dec 16th. Details on pick-up will be shared as we get closer to the event.
Miss Rennels' classes have the added fun of SPIRIT DAYS throughout the month! Our 2-5th graders are welcome to show their spirit too! Surprise your teacher when you show up for SynchMeets!
Quarter Two Attendance Challenge
Hello, URCEO Middle Schoolers! The attendance rate was not impressive last term and we need to do a better as a school! It's vital that you are checking in daily and taking part in your classes' SynchMeets on Mondays and Thursdays! At the school, we are tracking how we are improving during term 2. Rather than just reminding you about the importance of attendance and sharing a weekly report, we thought it would be fun to create a challenge. Better yet, we want to enlist you in creating the challenge. After all, at URCEO, everyone is a leader and can have a voice in what our school culture and activities are like!
We had 10 responses from our 21 students! Thank you to our 10 leaders for the input! Overwhelmingly (82% to19%), the students want to compete by grade level, so that's what we'll be doing--beginning TODAY! More details on the plan will be shared in the URCEO Middle School Group in Canvas. Students will also be recognized for their individual performance.
There is a school-wide incentive should all of 6, 7, and 8th grade teams surpass the district goal of 98.2% attendance during quarter 2!
Limited In Person Instruction
We cannot guarantee walk-ins based on our restrictions.
Meals are provided during this time or for take home. Students have their temperature checked prior to coming into the building and are required to wear masks while in the school. We practice safe distancing.
GED Program
Weekly Attendance is Mandatory for GED Students
Attendance is a requirement for the GED program based on state guidelines. All students are asked to complete a check-in log at least twice weekly as means of tracking both their attendance and participation. The log (a Google Form they complete) is in the Canvas Course.
