Celebrating Reading Success!
13,899! That's how many books our terrific Tigers have read since we launched the 20 Book Challenge in January! I am SO PROUD of our students and all of their hard work! It is so great to see our students motivated to read! As we know, research says that the best way for students' reading skills to improve is by reading! I'm certain that our students are not only reading more but that they are becoming better readers! Thank you to our teachers, staff and Mrs. Wellenkamp for making our 20 Book Challenge a HUGE SUCCESS! Stay tuned for details about our school wide Book Challenge Celebration!
5th Graders Prepare for Promise Scholars Field Trip to Mt. Sac!
Last week, Dakota Chavez from United Way/Promise Scholars, visited Mariposa to share a presentation about Mt. Sac College in preparation for their field trip today. We are so thankful that our students have the opportunity to take advantage of such a terrific opportunity! The Promise Scholars Program really does an excellent job opening up the world of possibilities to our students! Thank you Promise Scholars!

2nd Grade Digs Into Eureka Math!
Last week our 2nd Grade teachers and our district TOAs visited 2 Spotlight Classrooms and planned together! They made some new connections and were able to plan future lessons! Together they identified some key strategies that our 2nd graders need to be proficient with in order to build their conceptual understanding. They also spent a portion of their time talking about Number Talks and how to implement them into their daily math routines! Christine Meidl provided them with a "How To" presentation and resources to help them get started! Check out this clip of Christine explaining how to start using Number Talks in your classroom! I've also provided a link to a great article by the author of the book, Number Talks, Sherry Parrish!
