Reflecting on the past week...
Can you believe it? We made it through the first week of school... and during a pandemic! Nice job to all!
We are certainly in a continuous state of change as we navigate this uncertain time. I really liked the graphic on the right... indicating that there is a direct relationship between the words "change" and "chance." When we face changes, though it is uncomfortable for a while, the changes that occur could prove to be an improvement... a chance to make a positive change in the way we've done things in the past. Sometimes when we look at something through a different lens, we find that there are better, more creative, more innovative ways to address the way we teach, the way we address discipline, and the way we build relationships. Let's welcome the change... and give it a chance!
There was really no doubt in anyone's mind.... this week our staff and faculty showed their commitment to our students as they were teaching, cleaning, supporting, helping, reminding, encouraging, and on and on! There is no doubt that this year is like no other, but neither is our faculty and staff! THANK YOU for ALL you do!
A big shout out to our morning temperature/symptom screeners this week!
Kaitlin B., Ephraim L., Amy D., Joe w., Marcus K., Glenn P., Tom K., Jeremy T., Father Twenty, Brad W., & Benji W. The process has been seamless and extremely effective.
Another person who deserves recognition is Mrs. Houk! Not only did she have all of the devices reimaged and updated for our students and staff; she also made device distribution a breeze! Thank you!!!
Mr. Winkelman & Mr. Williams completed all of their class chats reviewing dress codes, discipline/consequences, and other basic expectations with our students on Wednesday. They fielded questions from our students and provided encouragement for a great school year. Teachers, please work with our Deans to ensure safety and security through your consistent, gentle reminders about wearing masks properly and socially distancing. Our Deans have also been instrumental in assisting teachers in setting up technology to service your remote learners through helping with headsets, alternative classroom locations, and overall troubleshooting to ensure you have what you need to deliver your lessons to both your in-person and remote learners. We want you to know that the entire administrative team is here to continue supporting you with this and anything else you need!
What's coming up?
Bus Evacuation Drills: It's that time of year again! Bus evacuations will be all day on Tuesday, August 25. Although a small population of our students rides a bus to or from school, all students are still required to participate in bus evacuation drills. Whether it's a field trip or athletic event (anticipating that these events will return) every student should be aware of what to do if there is an emergency on a school bus. Though the drills are taken care of during PE classes, we do have some students who are not currently in a PE class. If you have students in the categories listed below, please report to the aux gym immediately following taking attendance...
* AP US Government Class
* AP Macro/Microeconomics
* 1st Semester US Government
* If you have a student in your study hall that is just there because s/he has medical excuse from PE.
Back to School Night: Although we postponed our Back to School Night that was scheduled for Tuesday, August 25, we are still dismissing our students at noon. (A welcomed break for students & staff alike!)
Although originally there was no inservice scheduled for this day, Administration wants to use no more than 1 hour of your time to review our ideas and expectations for a Virtual Back To School Night that we anticipate will be available to Marian families on September 8.
The meeting will be in the cafeteria beginning at 12:15 pm. Please bring your own lunch.
Have a great week!
Stressed???
Here's a good Ted Talk on stress for all of us to watch. Should be quite helpful in these crazy times! Enjoy!
Outside Visitors
If a meeting is required for a sensitive or personal topic regarding our students, please discuss it with someone from the administration before setting up a meeting.
Thank you for keeping our Marian family safe!!
TECHNOLOGY CORNER
Why Technology is Important in the Classroom
Click here for a great video that speaks to the importance of educators embracing technology use in the classroom.
Great Remote Learning Resources
Click here for a host of resources to enhance remote learning!
Remember that you've got DYKNOW!
DyKnow is our Classroom Management Software that will give you, the teacher, the ability to see what websites/apps each of your students is on in real-time! Not only that, but you will be able to redirect them with a message, lock them out, collect data of off-task behavior and more!
If you need more information on how to use this tool, check out this quick how-to video!
Upcoming Technology PD:
We are currently setting up Teams training for our September 25 noon dismissal. Stay tuned!
