Westwood Families,
I might be aging myself. I hear that everything in life is an Abba song. This week the song would be - “Thank you for the music.” The sixth, seventh, and eighth grade bands and choirs are recording their spring performances. The sound from the band is filling the gym while the choir is singing in the den. The links to the performances will be sent out to parents. I hope you enjoy the performances.
There is one final push for students to demonstrate what they have learned this trimester and year with final projects, work, and assessments due in the upcoming week. Final grades will be given on June 11 and all work needs to be turned in to teachers prior to the end of the school year.
Report cards will be available to parents in Campus Parent Portal staring on Monday, June 14.
Families of students who are in doing Extended Flexible Learning (at-home learning) need to drop off materials in the Westwood office on Wednesday, June 9 from 9 a.m.–12 p.m. or 3–5 p.m. If material is not dropped off on June 9, you will receive a message on June 10 about a final drop off opportunity on June 11. See a list of materials by grade level here.
Finally, each team will be communicating their plans for our last day of school Thursday, June 10. There is a wide range of planning taking place with some rockets, tie dye, kickball games, and treats. It will be a well-deserved celebration for our students. There must be another Abba song in there.
Have a great week,
Tom Larson
Principal
Westwood's Yearbooks are almost here!
Extra yearbooks are now available for purchase. They will be sold for $30 (cash or check written to Westwood) and on a first come, first serve basis until sold out. All yearbooks will be distributed to students the last week of school, including those that were pre-ordered.
Outstanding School Fees: How to pay through Campus Parent Portal
As we wrap up the 2020-2021 school year, we encourage families to pay any outstanding fees they may have acquired throughout the school year. Fees could range from technology and iPad insurance to library books and music fees
To check if your family has any outstanding fees and to pay for the fees, login to Campus Parent Portal and click on "Fees" located in the left-hand black column. We are asking for families to pay these fees by June 30, 2021.

App offers free summer meals to Minnesota kids
Hunger Impact Partners, a non-profit organization with the Minnesota Department of Education that promotes free healthy summer meals for kids across the state, is encouraging students and families to download the Summer Eats Minnesota mobile app.
Here’s how it works:
- Download the free Summer Eats Minnesota app to your cell phone
- Use the mobile app to find the nearest site providing meals and meal packs by GPS
- Click on the nearby site and use the Meals Updates tab for more details
- Kids up to age 18 just show up and eat with no registration required
There are free meal sites across the state at schools, bus stops, libraries, community centers and parks. The app provides location, directions to the site and hours and days of distribution. More sites are added daily. For more information, visit the Hunger Impact Partners website.
Math and Native Prairie Plants
Math students in Angela Skauge's class got the chance to be student leaders by applying math skills to a project with native prairie plants. A unique experience partnering with the Anoka County Library and the Coon Creek Watershed District!
We are looking forward to working with all of our parents and families next year to support the staff and students at Westwood.
