Maker Space Mondays are Back!
Students, K-5, are invited to learn more about the Maker Space. Each week we will focus on devices and hands-on team building projects. Students should come to the Maker Space immediately after school. A small snack will be provided. Classes run from February 5th - March 12th.
Parents should come to the Maker Space (next to the library) to pick students up by 4:00 pm.
If you have any questions, please email Ms. Botten at kbotte1@isd77.org or call her cell at (507) 381-4214.
When do students have indoor recess/mornings?
To determine whether or not children are outside, we use this chart as a guideline. When the temperature gets close to the second blue field, we strongly consider keeping students indoors.
It is important that you send your child to school dressed to be outside for 20 minutes of recess.
Must haves
- Hats
- Gloves
- Winter jacket
- Boots
- Snow pants
- Scarf
- Face mask
- Other items your child may need to stay warm
When every child at Franklin has a hat, a pair of gloves, a winter coat and a pair of boots, that's 6 items per child times 465 children for a total of 2,790 pieces of clothing. Chances are high that things will get dropped, misplaced or mixed up with other students' clothing. Labeling your child's clothing helps greatly.

When is the next PTO meeting?
PTO meets next Thursday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Franklin Media Center. All are invited to attend. No formal child care will be available, but children can play quietly in the Media Center.
Does your 3rd-5th grader love to write, act, draw, or paint?
Franklin PTO will cover the bus costs to transport students to the SCSC Young Writers & Artists Conference on Wednesday, March 7. This conference is for students in third through fifth grade who have an interest in writing and creative arts. Third, fourth, and fifth grade teachers are sending information home with students who they think might be interested in this opportunity. If you know your child would love this conference, please ask your child's classroom teacher for more details. Franklin students get a reduced registration cost to this conference, but families are asked to cover the $17 registration cost (scholarships available).
When are Box Tops due?
The spring Box Tops for Education Classroom Competition is coming next month. Check folders in February for forms and submit any Box Tops you might have by the deadline. Now would be a good time to ask friends and family for any Box Tops they might have. Please don’t change your buying habits, just clip and submit any Box Tops you might have.
What made our Scholastic Book Fair record breaking?
Final Scholastic Book Fair numbers are in and WOW! We sold over $4027 in books and merchandise at the fair! This amount beats our past two November book fairs.
We'll receive $2214.89 in Scholastic Dollars (55% of sales) to spend on books and classroom furniture and supplies. Plus some of those Scholastic Dollars will help us buy one book for every K-5 Franklin student at the SPRING Book Fair, as a Walk-A-Thon prize. We’re waiting until March, because Scholastic discounts many more titles after the first round of fairs and we’ll have more $5 or less titles for our students to select from.
How much do we appreciate volunteers?
A big "Thank You" to the numerous volunteers that gave of their time at the book fair and to the volunteers that donated items for the teacher's potluck during conferences in November. We are so appreciative of all that you do for Franklin! As you know, we can not do these events without you. Thank you so much!
Want to give a shout out?
We are inviting families to email Mr. Olson when their child(ren) have a successful experience outside of school. The celebration will then be included in the morning school wide announcement. Ideas of things that families might want announced: winning a soccer tournament, moving up to a new tae kwon do belt, participating in the regional science fair, etc. If you have something that you'd like us to recognize your child(ren) for, email tolson1@isd77.k12.mn.us:
