Peace Prayer - St Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello everyone and welcome back to Term Two!
It was great to see the children all back in winter uniforms and see the excited reactions to the new court surface and painted undercover area. A big vote of thanks to Marcia, the P&F and Josh Hill for their time in organising and planning this fantastic up-grade. The result is a wonderful and durable playing surface that can be adapted for basketball, netball and a whole range of other sports and general activities.
The undercover area has also had a face-lift with the main area painted with an anti-skid two pack epoxy paint. This has worked out well and we will complete the outer sections over the next few weeks.
As you would be well aware ANZAC DAY ceremonies were held across the country last Thursday. Holy Spirit School was represented by Angus Vaz, Ashleigh Summers, Nicholas Williams and Juliet Kelly who laid a wreath in remembrance of those who gave up their lives in the various conflicts over time. Thanks to the Reed family for their attendance and all the parents of the Year Six school representatives who brought their children along for this special memorial service.
Gallipoli was just one campaign that we all remember and Sean Le’Strange MLA reminded us all of the many wars around the world that have involved Australian and New Zealand militia that have died in these conflicts serving their country.
Here is a summary of the coming events over the next few weeks:

Before and After School Care :
This is a service that can be based here at school facilitated by a service provider known as EXTEND. An information brochure detailing the care and activities provided by this company will be forwarded tomorrow. I would encourage you all to read the brochure and then complete the short survey to ascertain if we have enough interest and desire to provide this service at school.
Enjoy the rest of the week and I look forward to catching up at some of the events and activities over the next few weeks.
Regards,
Steve Versteegen - Principal

Holy Spirit students and families attend Anzac Day Parade
On Anzac Day students, teachers and families from Holy Spirit Primary School attended and laid flowers at The Town of Cambridge and RSL Cambridge Sub Branch Anzac Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony.
Anzac Day is a time when we can reflect on the contributions made by Australian & New Zealand Defence Force personnel who have displayed great courage and self-sacrifice for their country.
To the 2,400 Australian Defence personnel currently deployed on operations and exercises around the world who continue upholding the Anzac Spirit, we honour and thank them for the service. To the fallen, we mourn their loss and remember them.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

🏆HOLY SPIRIT WINS ITS 20th CONSECUTIVE INTER-SCHOOL SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP! 🏆
There is something in the water at Holy Spirit! We are lucky to have talented swimmers year after year, whose determination, hard work and perseverance never falter.
This year was our toughest challenge yet but our super swimmers strived with spirit and helped Holy Spirit School to their 20th year as the Interschool swimming champions! Holy Spirit also won the girl's trophy for the 11th consecutive year and we were runner-up in the boy's trophy.
Congratulations to our winning school captains Juliet K & Samuel T who led the team brilliantly. Thanks to all our competitors for their efforts in the pool and on the training afternoons and to Ms Thompson and Ms Newton for all their hard work in preparing the team.
We would also like to thank the team of helpers & volunteers that over the years have helped our swimmers achieve this great honour including past & present teachers, current Principal Mr Versteegen and ex-Principal Mrs Pat Buckley, the wonderful Mary Pearton who organises us all into shape and the many parents, friends and grandparents that ferried swimmers to and from swimming training and lessons.
Every successful individual knows that his or her achievement depends on a community of persons working together. Quote by P. Ryan.

Walk to School Day - 17 May 2019
P&F Funds in Action!
Our Pre-Primary classroom got a big surprise in the last week of Term 1 with the delivery of a new, very colourful and larger classroom rug! The old rug was much loved, worn and too small for our growing class of (usually) 22 students.
It has instigated many topics and games on colours, shapes and sizes and is a nice and comfy for somersaults, rolls and the odd afternoon nap!
The Parents & Friends Association (P&F) purchased this rug on behalf of this year’s Pre-Primary class and for many students to come. Enjoy!
Hewitt/Reed family win Holy Spirit Tuition Raffle!
Congratulations to the very deserving Hewitt/Reed Family of Bec, Brendan, Sienna (Year 4) and Emilia (Year 2) for winning our inaugural Holy Spirit Tuition Raffle which entitles them to one year's tuition for one of their girls!
The Holy Spirit Raffle not only awards a special Holy Spirit family with the grand prize but also raises funds for your P&F to pay for school resources and other initiatives to benefit all children at Holy Spirit School.
Thank you to everyone that purchased tickets and helped raised $1178 towards the P&F fundraising fund which is a fantastic achievement for our mighty but single stream school!
Thank you to Marcia, Sam, Mary & Steve for officiating and for all involved! :)
Dad & kids camping a BIG hit!
Last night Holy Spirit families held our first Dad & Kids camping night for the whole school and by all accounts, it was a fun-filled night!
A bouncy castle, playground, sports equipment, pizza, icy poles, birthday cake and movie kept the kids very busy! Dads were able to mingle with old and new friends and enjoy a night out without their better half! Q1!
A big thanks goes to the Boulevard Pizzeria, City Beach for our delicious pizzas! A big hit with all!
Thank you Tania S, Jo T, Briony D, Marcia P and Tom S for all your help! A big thank you to our wonderful Principal Mr V that came along and helped set up and mingled with families and came back on Sunday to lock up.
Lastly big thanks to our Dads for getting on board and taking on their allocated task so the night went so smoothly! We hope you enjoy a good night sleep tonight!
We look forward to this event becoming a Holy Spirit annual favourite with next year breakfast bacon and egg roles included! Mr V said he’ll even man the BBQ!
Easter Raffle raises funds for Project Compassion
Winners are grinners! Our annual Easter Raffle organised by the Holy Spirit P&F was drawn today with each class from Pre-Kindy to Year 6 receiving two prizes - 1st & Runner Up!
Parents & families generously donated lots of chocolates, gifts and craft to make up our bountiful Easter baskets and winners drew the next winning name out of the next class bucket. Congratulations to all our winners!
All raffle funds go to Project Compassion, Caritas Australia's annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal. Millions of Australians come together in solidarity with the world's poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
CALL OUT: Please return your Project Compassion giving boxes to Mary at the office ASAP and we'll tally up and let you know the grand total raised in the next newsletter!
