Special Accelerated Reader Edition
Brooks Academies of Texas Information for Parents
What is Accelerated Reader?
Each quarter, students will be screened to determine their reading level and the system will set an appropriate reading goal based on that reading level. This process will be continued each quarter.
How Do Students Earn Points and Receive a Grade?
At the end of the nine weeks, the students will receive a test grade based on their goal. Their progress percentage is their grade. For example if a student reaches 90% of their points goal - they have a 90 for a test grade. If a student has 50% of their goal, they have a 50 for a test grade.
No matter what a student's reading level, their goal and grade is based on their current level so students above and below grade level receive their AR grade based on their abilities.
Where Can I Find Books? How Do I Know if it's an AR Book? How do I Know if it's Appropriate?
You can go to: www.arbookfinder.com and look up the title or any book. If it is an AR book it will pop up with the number of points, reading level, and a short description of the book. It will also advise if the book contains violence, profanity and/or sexual situations so that parents can help students make appropriate decisions.
