Adult & Community Education
Tuesday in the Know - November 14, 2017
Message from the Leadership Team
As we continue to work with our ESOL and ABE/GED students, our goal is to help them acquire the skills that will allow them to be successful in the work place or in their transition into technical training. This week Lynda Rhines and Joann Richards kicked off a new Health Science Bridge Program. This class meets Mondays & Fridays from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM with both ESOL and ABE students. The Bridge Program allows students with an interest in the Health Science field an opportunity to explore all health science programs. Students will develop study and employability skills, set SMART goals, and will be introduced to health science terminology while incorporating language and academic skills. The goal of the program is to give students a stronger foundation with their language and academic skills by contextualizing their learning within the health science theme and giving them a step up as they transition into their chosen health science program.
Spot light on students
We salute our students! Yes, we have outstanding instructors, but it is the dedication, passion and desire to learn our students have that makes Collier Adult Education special. We would like to recognize a few of our outstanding Fall Session I students.

ESOL Instructor Resources
Do you feel well-prepared when you teach your class? Do you feel like you have smooth transitions? If you weren't as confident in your answer, a simple solution would be to PLAN out your schedule.
I noticed while I spent most of my time down at LWTC these last two weeks, that Dan M. and Lin R. stay focused throughout the evening following their simply laid out lesson plans where the time is in "chunks" coordinated with an activity.
Within the activities, keep mindful to state the objective, present and practice in an engaging manner and monitor your students for understanding. (How many times have you heard that?)
You can find a Lesson Plan template on our google drive! Hint: Under Lesson Plan Template
