Lord/Lady Capulet
Theme
Romeo and Juliet is about two star crossed lovers. Romeo's family is the Montagues and Juliet's family is the Capulets. They fall in love one night and never stopped loving each other, but tragically after Juliet "dies" Romeo goes to the Capulet family tomb and delcares his unending love to her and when she wakes up she finds Romeo dead and stabs herself with his dagger. The feud between the Montagues and the Capulets feud is ended. A theme to support the play is People should not control his/her daughter/son's every aspect of life.
Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that she must marry Paris.
Juliet went to Friar Laurence to get help because she doesn't want to marry Paris.
But even though Juliet has to marry Paris she still has a unending love for him.
Act 1 Scene 3
In the play the script says...."Thus then in brief: The valiant Paris seeks his love."(pg 1007 Lines 80-81.) Lady Capulet is speaking to Juliet because the Capulets are having a party and Lady Capulet wants Juliet to fall in love with Paris. This supports the theme beacuse Lady Capulet wants Juliet to marry Paris no matter what because her parents get to pick who she marries beacuse they don't want Juliet to marry the wrong guy.
Act 3 Scene 4
In Romeo and Juliet it states...."A Thursday, tell her, she (Juliet) shall me married to this noble earl (Paris)" (pg 1061 Lines 23-24.) Lord Capulet is speaking to Lady Capulet because he want her to tell Juliet that she will marry Paris on Thursday. This supports the theme because Lord Capulet has chosen the day that Juliet and Paris will be married.
Act 3 Scene 5
In the play it is spoken..... " Early next Thursday morn. The gallant, young, and noble gentlemen, The county Paris, at Saint Peter's Church. Shall make thee there a joyful bride.... He shall not make me there a joyful bride!'(Pg 1067 Lines 126-132.) Lady Capulet is speaking to Juliet because she is telling her that she will marry Paris on Thursday. This supports my theme because again Lady Capulet is telling Juliet that she will marry Paris on Thursday because they want Juliet to be married as soon as possible because they want to make sure that Juliet doesn's fall in love with someone else.
Act 4 Scene 1
In Romeo and Juliet it states....."O bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, from off the battlements of yonder tower....chain me with roaring bears. Juliet is talking to Friar L because she wants the potion and she says that if she didn't she would jump off the tower. This supports the theme because Lord/ Lady Capulet are controlling Juliet's love life, but Juliet is saying that even though her parents are forcing her to marry Paris she would rather kill herself. Juliet's parents lead her to this choice because even though her parents know she doesn't love Paris her parents keep pressuring her to marry Paris.
