PSY 329 Sensation & Perception
Instructor: Laura Cacciamani
How do we perceive the world around us? It seems easy, right? We open our eyes and are immediately and effortlessly able to make sense out of the complicated environment in front of us. But in fact, it is not as simple as it may seem; a vast amount of “behind the scenes” processing takes place in order to produce an interpretation of what we are experiencing. In this course, we will discuss the underlying perceptual process as it pertains to each of the five senses—smell, sight, taste, touch, and sound. Additionally, we will examine what happens when the perceptual process fails-- for instance, when we perceive things that aren't really there (such as in visual illusions, hallucinations, and other intriguing phenomena).
