This attack was done by John Brown a anti slavery man who wanted to start an armed slave revolt against the southern slave/ plantation owners. The raid happened in 1859. John asked many slaves but only around 20 joined. The reason was because they knew the consequences to what they were gonna do.

Bleeding Kansas is used to describe the time of violence in Kansas. In 1854 the Kansas-Nebraska act created an unbalance of free and slave states. The state tried to use popular sovereignty to settle the dispute, but violence broke out between both sides.
Uncle Tom's Cabin
This book is about the Shelby family having to sell two of their slaves because of money problems with Uncle Tom and Harry. The Shelby family did not want to sell either of them for different reasons that they had. They are sold and the book is about their journey and the many people they meet along their journey and life.

This compromise created laws that admitted California as a free state, also it created Utah and New Mexico territories with the question of slavery in each to be determined by Popular Sovereignty. This also created an unbalance because there was now more free states then slave states.

The Election of 1860
The United States presidential election of 1860 was held on Tuesday, November 6, 1860. The winner of the election was Abraham Lincoln. This also served as the immediate action for the outbreak of the American Civil War. Lincolns main goal was to preserve the Union and stop the expansion of slavery and secession. This election of Lincoln made the south afraid because they thought he would end slavery.
