Week at a Glance

Marian Central Catholic High School Faculty Newsletter

Reflecting on the past week...

Another wonderful week in the books at Marian Central! So many events...proof that Marian Central is an amazing place to teach, learn, & grow!

Hats off to Mrs. Widmayer and Mrs. Ghita's collaboration project with their art & French students as they saw this project come to fruition! These students did a great job on Tuesday as they went to McHenry Deanery schools to read their newly created books to kindergarteners! Check out the pictures below!

A big part of this past week was our first-ever two-day all-school retreat! Thanks to everyone who had a part in the organization and running of this huge endeavor! I pray that the events of this past Wednesday and Thursday touched our students' and staff's hearts, and hope, as the Bishop stated, that the idea of "retreat" does not end when we are back in our regular routines. As role models in a Catholic high school, it is our job to be spiritual leaders for our students... but rather than looking at it as a job, isn't it easier to accept it as a privilege? How fortunate are we to be able to help shape the lives of these students... We just need to remember that everything we do; everything we say; everything we are sends a message to these students. By us each living our own best lives, we are providing our students a blueprint for their own lives... a privilege indeed.

What's coming up?

This Monday is the Midterm of Semester 2. If you did not already contact parents of students who have been struggling in your classes, please make sure you make contact with them. We have to remember that we are partners with the parents in ensuring that our students have all of the opportunities to grow academically and spiritually. Every student at Marian is "our" student... and we are responsible for the success of all of them. Thank you for your tireless work and support for them.

Wednesday is another Late Start meeting. Please see the attached agenda. If possible, please review the video provided on the agenda before the meeting. We will be brainstorming ways in which to address the bias that continues to reemerge at our school.

This week is "Tech Week" for the Musical Annie! That means high stress and high excitement in anticipation of this coming weekend's musical performance by all of the crew! Please support our musical performers through this week... encouraging them and, if possible, come see one of the performances Friday at 7 pm, Saturday at 5 pm, or Sunday @ 2 pm.

These students are also going to be pulled out of classes this Thursday as the Deanery 6th graders come to Marian for our annual 6th Grade Visit Day! Performers and crew will be providing a sneak preview of the musical in addition to other fun activities that hopefully will convince the 6th graders that they belong at Marian for high school! Please click here for the day's complete schedule. Also, note that several student mentors will also be out of class during this event.

A lot of great things happening at Marian!

Have a good week!

New Required Training... ALL REQUIRED TO COMPLETE!

The State of Illinois and the Rockford Diocese is requiring more in-depth training for Mandated Reporters. For those who already completed the Mandated Reporter training through GCN... thank you, and I am sorry, but it no longer has the components required by the state. We now must complete the following...

The DCFS Mandated Reporter Training is available at: https://mr.dcfstraining.org/UserAuth/Login!loginPage.action?request_locale=en.

(You will need to create an account)

Please complete this before April 1, after which you will not need to do this again until the 2022-23 school year! Once you complete the training, please provide Mrs. DiSilvio with a copy of both the Acknowledgement of Mandated Reporter Status and the certificate of completion for our records.

Thank you.

Time is Running Out!

This is just a gentle reminder that all Staffulty members are to complete this year's set of online training session in order to stay in compliance with Illinois state mandates for schools.

As shared back in August, all trainings must be completed no later than April 1, 2020.

If you have already completed your trainings, thank you for being so pro-active! If you have not, please print out the Certificate of Completion once you have completed all of your designated trainings.

If you need assistance logging into your account, please contact Ms. Novy.

TECHNOLOGY CORNER

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT EMAILS!

Mrs. Houk spoke with ST. Benedicts this past week and the plan is to have the email conversion from GMail to Outlook done by June 1st. In order to make the process go smoothly, all staff needs to begin cleaning out their email inbox and folders in your GMail account as much as possible. You need to delete any unnecessary emails and also download any attachments that you want to keep.

If you need any assistance or further directions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Houk.
