Student Leadership Opportunities for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade!
Bullying Prevention and Intervention Information
A safe learning environment for all Katy ISD students and staff is our top priority. Throughout this school year, you will see an increased focus on building awareness and enhancing systems that support both the physical and emotional well-being of all our children. This includes our video series on bullying prevention and intervention. Check out our latest video, “What Does Bullying Look Like?.” More information about policies and procedures related to bullying can be found here.
**RAINY DAY DISMISSAL** WALKERS ONLY
The forecast this week calls for some much needed rain! In the event that it is raining during dismissal, we call a "rainy day dismissal." On these days, bus, car and day care riders go their usual way.
Walkers must have a "rainy day" plan.
This will be the way they go home when a rainy day dismissal is called. Homeroom teachers should know how your walker is to go home if it is raining. Note--if your walker is a car rider on rainy day, please understand the car rider likely moves much slower on rainy days. Your child could still be a walker on rainy days, it just means they would still walk in the rain. We won't release students if there is lightening or severe weather. We would just hold them until the weather is safe for walking.
A text and email will be sent by 3:15 if it is called a "rainy day".
Parent Pick Up Line Update!
Things are moving much smoother in the parent pick up line. Here are a few reminders:
*Parents should not enter the line until 3:00 or so. We have cars getting in line as early as 1:40.....that's two hours before dismissal!
*You must be in line by 3:45 in order to have your number recorded. If you get in line after, it is likely you will need to come into the building to sign your child out.
*It is important that you stay in your lane. Switching lanes causes confusion, and hot tempers. Please remember we are standing in the heat and don't want to be out any longer than necessary. We also want our students to be cool and safe.
We so appreciate those of you who have been encouraging and patient. It is paying off.
A Couple of Quick Parent Tips!
This week students will walk to class by themselves. We will have monitors in the hallways to help guide them to their classes.
Lunches---If you need to deliver lunch, you'll have to RAPTOR in and deliver it to the table by the gym. Your student won't be called down to get their lunch. Also...no Door Dash! :)
Early Check Out--Students needing to leave early must be checked out by 3:10. There are no check-outs after this time as we begin dismissal and it makes it very hectic, and unsafe.
Students who are checked out early receive a partial day absence, so be sure to bring a note if you are making a doctor's appointment.
Changes of transportation should only happen occasionally. When students constantly have a different way home, they get confused. Changes must be made in WRITING, and sent to the school in the morning. We cannot make changes to transportation over the phone or by email. You can fax a note, but it must have a copy of your ID as well. It is recommended that if you fax it, you call to be sure it was received.
Other policies and procedures can be found in the parent handbook which is located on our website, or copies are available in the front office.
**Special Project** What are your Goals for 2018-2019?
A new year means new beginnings and a time for new goals.
We'd like to decorate our hallway with photos of our families and include the goals you have for your student.
We are asking each family to bring a 4x6 picture of your family. You'll give this to one of your child's teachers and also write a goal for your student on a piece of paper we provide. We'll hang our Bethke Family Photos and the goals in our main hallway for everyone to enjoy.
