NEWS FROM DR. CHAUSSEE
Child Rearing the in the 2020’s and Beyond (and Earlier)
Full disclosure: When I recommend a book or an article I have no connection to the author nor the company that may be selling the book. I do not get any kickback from Amazon* if a parent orders a book from them. In fact, many of the books I read I get from the public library or I recommend from a small book company.
I’m going to offer two recommendations: One is a book that I have recommended before and the other is a child psychologist who writes a weekly column in The Omaha World Herald and has written many books. The book is The Orchid and the Dandelion: Why Some Children Struggle and All Can Thrive by W. Thomas Boyce, M.D.
The author and psychologist is John Rosemond who as mentioned above whose recent column was titled “Are Continued Tantrums a Sign of Something More?” He maintains that no child above age five should be having temper tantrums, which we do see in school. Mr. Rosemond calls it the Mick Jagger Principle: You Can’t Always Get What You Want-a famous song from 1969. I’ve been reading his (Rosemond’s not Jagger’s) columns for decades which helped me apply common sense parenting while raising four of my own children.
I recommend reading the book by Dr. Boyce and the columns, articles, web site, and books by Mr. Rosemond.
