LS Weekly Update 8.26.2022
Sept 2 Flagpole + Spirit Day + Tech + No School Days
SEPTEMBER IS COMING!
We are closing out our 3rd full week of school and have so many things to celebrate. Students have settled into learning routines and staff are diving right into instructional content. Baseline data has been gathered and small group instruction and enrichment will launch fully next week. We also welcomed our new Student Council members on daily morning announcements this week! It was so fun having student voice back on our morning videos.
Do not forget that this is the last week to purchase Device Protection Plan for your 4th-6th grader. Device protection saves you significant money in the event of damage or loss of a chromebook. Even the most responsible children can have accidents, so it's better to pay the $25 plan and never use it, than to assume the school devices or children responsible for them are indestructible :) Visit url.dvusd.org/paymentportal. Username=student ID number; password=Last name (case sensitive). Then find our school and search for "device". Here is a flier with detailed instructions.
Be on the lookout further in this Smore for the Upcoming Events section, which outlines Friday release days, No School days in September, and upcoming Parent Teacher Conferences (Oct 3-7). As a reminder, the majority of our Fridays are 2:00PM release. Teachers continue to value this time as they review data, plan instruction, and prepare interventions and enrichment supports to continue to push our students to their highest potential. Thank you for picking up your child on time and supporting this early release time!
Don't forget to KEEP SCROLLING for:
- Cheer/Pom Clinic opportunity K-6
- Safety, Supervision & Traffic Updates
- Cafeteria Links-- Breakfast & Lunch are NOT FREE this year
- DEVICE PROTECTION - 4th-6th Grade (last week to register!)
- JOB OPENINGS! - Come join our team before or after school!
- Battle of the Books
- Chorus sign ups
- And more :)
You can expect to receive the LS Weekly Update S'more each Friday to keep you informed with all campus events and happenings. Be sure to follow our facebook page, Instagram page, Twitter feed, and make sure you join our PTO and follow their page as well.

DISMISSAL REMINDERS - DON'T GET A TICKET!
IF YOU PICK UP OR DROP OFF IN THE MAIN LOOP (GREEN CURB BLUE CURB), PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO to help the procedure run more smoothly. Click here to watch the video.
Drop Off & Pick Up Reminders
- Please be patient and be kind to staff and other drivers as it takes a few weeks for all to learn our procedures. Remember out staff is out in 100+ degree weather keeping all our kids safe, and everyone's safety is more important than any individual's convenience
Make sure that all adults who will be picking up students at 3:30 have a yellow name placard with the student's FIRST & LAST NAME clearly written in marker bold and big so we can read them. Placards are available in the office. Take as many copies as you need (one for mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, etc......).
Our Pick-Up Loop opens at 3:30 pm. Waiting in line earlier causes back-up and congestion, as students are not dismissed before 3:30PM from this gate.
Please pull forward and follow all staff directions around the pick up loop. Do not stop short or get out of your car.
We do not have any supervision of students until 8:30 am so please do not drop off or leave any kids unattended before 8:30 am.
Do not cross any streets outside of the designated and manned crosswalks in the AM or PM. We have had some very close calls and pedestrians almost struck crossing 62nd or Quail illegally.
Note- Glendale PD has been making a presence to ticket any drivers who are speeding in a school zone (15 MPH limit) or parking illegally. Be sure you are reading the "no stopping, standing, parking" signs and adhering to them around the neighborhood.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL TIMES
Also-- no students will be released after 3:15PM from the office. If you arrive to pick up your child early to avoid traffic lines you will have to wait until the Kinder release (3:20) or 1st-6th release (3:30) to get your child. This minimizes classroom disruptions and ensures students are completing their full day of learning.
WANTED- AM/PM CARE HELP!
The DVUSD Community Education Department is hiring! Full and part time positions are available in our before and after programs as well as preschools.
Our Before & After Care program is required to follow DES guidelines for student-to-staff ratios. If we do not have enough employees, we cannot accept more students, impacting AM/PM care options for families.
If you are interested in working part-time (either AM, PM or BOTH), please contact Dina.Sands@dvusd.org or go to careers.dvusd.org to apply.
COMPLETE RETURNING STUDENT CONTACT INFO
Be sure you have completed your student's required return to school and emergency forms online. This process replaces the paper forms sent home at the beginning of each school year. You should have received an email for each child to access the forms. You can also access your forms by clicking the link below.
How do I get started?
Use the snapcode link or visit https://registration.powerschool.com/family/gosnap.aspx?action=33393&culture=en Then enter your student’s snapcode provided in the email from PowerSchool Registration Support (subject line: DVUSD Returning student school forms).
What’s a snapcode?
By using the link in the email sent to you, you will automatically enter your child's snapcode. The snapcode is like a key to your child’s Returning Student Registration for the upcoming school year. You should receive a unique snapcode or snapcode link for each child.
Should I create an account?
- If you’ve never completed an online Returning Student Registration, you should create an account using your email address (this is not your PowerSchool parent account). This allows you to securely save your work and come back at a later time if necessary.
-If you created an account previously, and do not remember your password, click "Forgot Password", and you will receive a password recovery email.
- If you already have an account, you can sign in and complete the form. (You should use the same account to complete forms for multiple children.)
What if I have more than one student in the district?
Do I need to do this for each child? Yes, because you’ll need to provide information that is specific for each child. We recommend that you submit one Returning Student Registration and then start another – this will allow you to “snap over” shared family information, which will save you time.
Help! I’m having technical difficulties.
-For technical support, visit our PowerSchool Community help center or select “Help” from any form page.
-If you are still having difficulty, please contact your school's Registrar.

WHAT HAPPENS ON EARLY RELEASE FRIDAYS?
Early Release Friday
The majority of our Fridays are 2:00PM release days in DVUSD. These days are reserved for our campus Professional Learning Communities and Staff Development for our DVUSD staff. These 90-minute early release days offer teachers and staff the time for collaboration and planning throughout the district in order to enhance the education offered district-wide and offer the best learning experience for our students. These early release Fridays will occur most Fridays, with some exceptions. View the instructional calendar for more information. Visit the start and dismiss page to find out when your child’s school releases during those dates.
