Math
Mr. Hart's Class - We have been working on rounding numbers up to thew nearest hundred thousand. In addition we have been adding numbers to the with and without regrouping using the place value chart as a reference tool. The past few days we have worked on subtracting numbers and borrowing up to three times. This concept always seems to have the kids struggle. We will continue to work on subtraction next week before we focus on solving multi-step word problems using the Read Draw Write (RDW) method. Next week we will take the I-Ready diagnostic assessment. This will help me determine your child's strengths and weaknesses. I can then use the information to provide help during our intervention time.
ELA
This week we started our book groups. We have four groups and four books the books are Fantastic Mr. Fox, Hatchet, Sign of the Beaver, and Danger on Panther Peak.
I just started a new read aloud - Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech. We'll be depending on this story as we continue to work on making inferences, characterization, story elements, and theme.
Mrs. Eagan visited us on Thursday and shared three Iroquois stories with our team. Be sure to ask your 4th grader to tell you about his/her favorite story.
