Principal’s Message
What a week! Having our teachers back in the building preparing for kids has been amazing. They are fired up and ready to welcome our kids back full time, for in person instruction. I’m so proud of the work they are doing around supporting our students’ social, emotional, and academic needs.
To all the families who have encountered technology glitches this week, we thank you for your patience and understanding. Synergy, our district platform connected to Parentvue, experienced quite a few issues. Hopefully, by now you have all received emails with your student’s classroom teacher assignment, and links to our Welcome Back conferences next week. If not, please call the office directly at 503-844-1670. We are open from 7:30-3:30 daily.
Did you miss my newsletter last week? If you did, here is the link again: 8/20 Newsletter. Doublecheck the section for Back to School information. I hope you have a fabulous first week back!
Kind regards,
Kasia Gutierrez
Arrival/Dismissal
Dismissal is another story. Since all students are dismissed at 2:20, we experience crowding in the back and west side of the school, especially around the portable areas. For this school year, please do not enter through our side gates, or report directly to the portables for pick up. Teachers will escort the students to the front of the building, on the west side by our very large oak tree. Please plan to meet your student on the south side of the fence by our tree/bike racks. Here is the map of the classrooms again:

Lunch/Breakfast Procedures: (NEW PROCEDURE)
To support better airflow during breakfast and lunch, all meals will be served outdoors, in our undercover area. Students will be spaced 3 feet apart at the table with their class. This will be the plan to start the year, and we will reevaluate monthly. Please remember to send a coat or sweatshirt with your child to school, as it can get chilly out there. In addition, no snacks will be allowed/eaten in the classrooms. This means ALL students who want breakfast need to walk to the undercover area in the morning; not through our main doors.
Bus Health and Safety Updates
In order to support in person learning 5 days a week, buses will run at full capacity.
All bus riders and staff will be required to wear a mask to ride the bus.
Buses will also carry extra student masks for anyone in need
Buses will keep all windows at a minimum of halfway open to provide extra ventilation
High touch points areas will be wiped down between each “run” of students
All buses will be disinfected daily with “Oxivir” utilizing a static sprayer.
Bus staff will continue to encourage students living within the same household to sit together.
No seating charts will be used on all general education buses. If a positive case is identified, a heads up letter will be sent to families.
Student rostering on special accommodation buses
Due to the needs of students transported on these smaller buses, seating charts will continue to take place daily.
Old Technology Returns
If you were at Jackson last year, you likely have old Chromebooks, chargers, and headphones laying around the house. The HSD bond our community passed recently has covered the purchasing of new Chromebooks for every student in our school district! Please return all your used technology to school at your earliest convenience.
After School Care
We are excited to offer a new afterschool program at Jackson. Champions will be onsite every day during the week for Jackson students. The program is limited to 45 students, and extends from dismissal to 5:30. Snacks will be provided. Please see the following link to sign up and view the fee schedule. Afterschool care will start on 9/20, in our multipurpose room. ww.discoverchampions.com
