Summer Reading Challenge 2023
June 20 - August 25
Summer Reading this year challenges you to "Find Your Voice" at home and at the Library through words, movement, art, and more! All ages are welcome to participate by reading, visiting the library, attending programs, or exploring digital challenges on Beanstack. Hatch-a-Chicken: Happy Hatch-Day!
Wednesday, June 21
Peep! Peep! Our eggs are hatching! The seven fertilized eggs that arrived on May 31st are estimated to hatch on June 21st. Visit the Library this week to see these new chicks peck out of their shells and peak into the world. This program is kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Pembroke Public Library.
Storytime
Mondays and Tuesdays at 10:30am
Toddlers (ages 2 to 5) and their caregivers can enjoy an interactive storytime with songs, dances, games, and stories that encourage language development and social skills. Each themed storytime is followed by a craft.
*Special Note: The Library will be closed on Monday, June 19 and will not be hosting Storytime.
Baby Lapsit
Thursdays, June 1, 8, 15, and 29 from 10:30-11:00am
Designed for babies and toddlers from 6 to 24 months, Lapsits are a great chance for caregivers to bond with their child while learning new rhymes and stories to share. Each program includes stretches, music, a story, and more followed by an open play time.
Anime Club
Thursday, June 8 from 4:00-6:00pm
Ages 11 - 15 are invited to watch anime, snack, craft and socialize. This month watch episodes from Squid Girl (TV-PG) while crafting a Squid in a Bottle. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.
LEGO Club
Tuesday, June 13 from 4:00-5:00pm
Kids ages 5+ are welcome to visit and build with the library LEGOs. Bring your neighbors, big siblings, and school friends! LEGO Club is designed to give kids a safe, creative environment in which they can freely build with LEGOs, interact with peers, and express themselves. This month's theme is "If I Had a Million Dollars..."
Puppy Dog Tales
Thursday, June 15 from 4:15-5:00pm
Readers of all ages may read to a certified therapy dog to develop their literacy and presentation skills as well as build confidence and self-esteem. Our dogs and trainers provide a supportive environment to practice reading aloud. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed.
Little Music Makers
Thursday, June 22 from 10:30-11:00am
Enhance your little one’s love of music during this 30-minute bonding time, with songs, dance, and movement games to excite one’s budding musician. Babies and toddlers ages 0-2 with a caregiver are welcome to drop in and join us!
Chess Club
Wednesday, June 21 from 4:00-5:00pm
Chess Club will now be hosted every 3rd Wednesday of the month. All ages* & skill levels can learn and play chess at the Library. Whether you have been playing for years or want to start playing for the first time, you’re welcome to join us. This is a drop-in event; no registration is needed. *Children under age 8 must be accompanied by someone over age 13 at all times.
Escape Room: Egg Rescue (ages 8-12)
Tuesday, June 27 from 1:30-2:30pm
Ages 8 - 12 are invited to test their skills in a chicken-themed Escape Room. Decipher clues, problem solve, and crack the code to reunite lost eggs with their mother hens. Registration required; visit https://linktr.ee/pembrokepubliclibrary or call 781-293-6771 to sign up.
Yarn Chick Craft (ages 12-18)

Chicken Storytime (ages 5-8)

PEMBROKE HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP
A message from Tim Lopes - Pembroke High School Girls Varisty Head Coach

We are very excited to announce registration is open for the fourth annual Pembroke Girls Basketball Camp on July 31 to August 3, 2023. The camp will run from 9 am to 2 pm, Monday through Thursday, and be held at the Pembroke High School Gym. The camp is open to girls from any town who are presently in grades 3 through 8. The cost is $200 per player.
Players can expect a fun and lively atmosphere with an emphasis on enhancing the love of the game, developing skills and basketball IQ and getting to meet and know both present and former Pembroke Girls Basketball players, Women’s College Basketball players, Coach Tim Lopes and members of the Pembroke Girls Basketball Staff. There may even be a surprise guest or two. In past years, we have had college and prep school coaches join us!
Players can expect the following areas of skill development focus:
Ball handling using one and two basketballs
Shooting at all three levels including instruction on how to use the Pembroke owned shooting machine
Defensive rebounding footwork and offensive rebounding tactics
Communication both on the floor and off the floor
Passing types, passing fundamentals and when to use them
Individual and team man to man defensive principles
Transition basketball “Do’s and Don’ts”
Players should wear shorts, basketball sneakers and a reversible jersey or t-shirt.
Players should bring a basketball, lunch, lots and lots of water, and a terrific attitude.

Pembroke Youth Baseball & Softball presents- Family Day at the Fields!
Please join us on Saturday, June 17th. Come on down and support our players at Districts during the day! After the games, festivities will start around 4:30 PM, and end with the first-ever Movie Night at Mattakeesett sponsored by Dunkin Pembroke Center.
Tickets are $25 prepay/$30 day of per car load and includes all family day activities, bounce houses, popcorn, and movie night. The snack shack will also be selling candy, food, burgers, hot dogs, sausages & peppers/onion.

Pembroke Youth Soccer 2023 - 2024 Player Registration
We are excited to open registration for all age groups for our Fall 2023-Spring 2024 soccer year.
PYS offers a single registration that covers players for the full soccer year (both Fall and Spring seasons). Here are some key dates:
- July 31st – Early registration closes for all divisions U6-U14 ($25 late fee applied after 7/31)
- August 15th – Last day to register to be guaranteed to play in Fall-Spring 2023-2024 (U12-U14)
- August 31st – Last day to register to be guaranteed to play in Fall 2023 (U6-U10)
- September 4th – Team practices begin
- September 9th – PYS In-town and Coastal League seasons kick off

U5 Lil’ Kickers (preschool…future soccer stars)
U6 Coed (Boys and Girls entering Kindergarten)
U7 Boys (entering 1st grade)

First Church in Pembroke Community Pancake Breakfast
You can Stay or take your pancakes to go! Have it your way! First Church in Pembroke will host a Community Pancake Breakfast on the first Saturday of each month year-round. Please join us on April 01, 2023, from 8 –10 am, at First Church in Pembroke’s Fellowship Hall, 105 Center Street, Pembroke. We will offer a combination of pancakes, sausage, and a choice of beverage, all for only $5. It is a time of good food and fellowship. Seating is available in Fellowship Hall as we continue to offer a Grab & Go option. Place your order, and pancakes and sausages are packed and ready soon after. A great way to start your day - and you do not have to cook!

First Church in Pembroke Steeple Lighting
First Church in Pembroke
The Church Steeple Lighting Program was established many years ago as an opportunity for anyone who has any connection to First Church in Pembroke or the community to memorialize family, friends, or loved ones for any occasion. Sponsorship of memorial lighting is reserved on a weekly basis - Sunday to Saturday. A donation for one week is gratefully accepted to help with the lighting of the steeple.
