Start of the School Year at MESA!
Go Bears!
What an Amazing Start to the School Year!!!
We have the first few weeks of school under our belts and it has been an amazing start to the school year for our students. We are fortunate to have such top notch students and wonderfully supportive families in our community and we thank you for sending your students to us each day. Believe it or not, on the third day of school, a majority of students had figured out their schedules and the hallways were empty.
The faculty and staff have worked hard to support our students and to make them feel comfortable in their new classes, schedules, and grade levels. In addition, teachers have taken the opportunity to get to know their students through innovative and engaging activities, which helps to set the stage for learning throughout the year.
As I wrote in my start of the year letter, please know that the main goal of every staff member of Mesa Middle School is to ensure that each student is provided the opportunity for a positive, productive, and safe school experience. This is our commitment to you.
Sincerely,
Tony Jackowski
Principal
Mesa's State Preliminary Rating is PERFORMANCE (The Highest Rating from the State).
Dear Mesa Families,
We hope all is well. We are contacting you to share some information regarding our state testing results. Recently the Colorado Department of Education released the Preliminary 2018 School Performance Framework (SPF) to school districts. These ratings and plans are required by the Education Accountability Act of 2009 (SB 09-163) and are intended to hold districts and schools accountable for performance on the same single set of academic achievement and growth indicators and measures, as well as identifying possible resources to correct issues.
Depending on performance, schools are assigned a specific plan type which includes: performance plan, improvement plan, priority improvement plan, or turnaround plan. Based on the results from the Colorado School Performance Framework in 2018, Mesa Middle School will be on a Performance Plan for the 2018-2019 school year (the highest rating possible). Mesa was assigned this plan based on performance in the areas of academic achievement and growth.
We believe that Mesa is an amazing school and we look to create an environment where students feel safe and cared for, and as a result, can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. In addition, we have a supportive community where parents/guardians recognize the positive school experience their students receive at Mesa Middle School.
To be identified as a Performance school the overall SPF needs to be at or above 53.0. Mesa's score was at 78.8. While we recognize there are various opinions and views regarding state testing we thank everyone for their support around this rating.
Sincerely,
Tony Jackowski

COLORADO SPACE CADETS: Front Range space school preparing for take-off - Sentinel Colorado, June 18, 2018
Mesa Middle School 8th grader Jacob Gold was featured in an article in Sentinel Colorado that covered Wings over the Rockies' Exploration of Flight program and its future.
Wings Over the Rockies (Wings) has partnered with engineers, teachers and pilots to assist in preparing, creating and encouraging the next generation of explorers. Colorado has the second largest aerospace industry in the country with significant industry corporations having a presence in Colorado. However, those corporations are facing a growing shortage of employees and will continue as the aerospace industry is anticipated to grow. Founders are hopeful that the growth of the organization will assist with this problem.
Wings’ mission is to inspire and educate people of all ages about the history and potential for air and space travel. Currently, the museum partners to provide flights to students across the state in the Young Eagles program and to educators with its teacher flight program.
As part of Wings' expanding program, the organization anticipates opening one of the first space schools called the Colorado Skies Academy, a non profit charter school which will be built at the Centennial Airport. The founders hope that this school can serve as a model in training the next astronauts, engineers and even space artists in communities across the country and across the world.
