Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary Gets Performance School Banner 2 Years in a Row!
On Friday, October 20th, Dr. Hill presented our school with our 2nd consecutive Performance School banner at our ROAR Rally. Way to go Leopards!
We also unveiled our new book vending machine. To say our kiddos were excited would be an understatement!
Happy Fall! What a busy October we have had. With conferences and ROAR Rallies and Halloween, the month just flew by. The next few weeks will be busy also, as we head into the holiday season. On November 9, PTA is hosting a craft fair and ornament painting event in the gym and cafeteria. The following day, Friday, November 10, we host approximately 75 veterans and their families for our annual Veterans Day assembly. The event is very special to us at Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary as many of us have loved ones who have served our country in the military, and though one day is not enough to honor their sacrifice, it is at least a time to pause and say, “Thank You”. While the entire staff, and many families, make contributions in pulling this off, the real credit goes to our own Mrs. Wilson, who every year coordinates all the moving pieces to make it flow smoothly. We hope you can join us on Friday, November 10, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Our next big school-wide event is our annual food drive, sponsored by Burton Orthodontic. Look for more information coming soon. The food drive starts Monday, November 13 and runs through Wednesday, December 13. The food drive will assign points to various food items this year, with the school earning the most points being awarded $1000. LOM always does a great job sharing what we have with the community around us. A big “Thank You” to Burton Orthodontic for what they do in our community.
Thanksgiving Break begins on November 18 (Saturday) with a return to school on Monday, November 27. When students return, we will have period of midyear, benchmark assessments to gauge our progress towards meeting the aforementioned goals, and then it’s a mad dash down the stretch towards Christmas.
Just a reminder that we appreciate the opportunity to work with you and your children, and we look forward to doing great things together for the remainder of the year. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to drop in or call me at (970) 254-7940. Or, you can send me an email at randy.foster@d51schools.org.
Gratefully,
Randy Foster
Principal
Celebrations!
We are happy to announce that as a school, our attendance rate is currently just above 94% as we glide right into second quarter. We owe you, families, a HUGE thanks as you are getting your students to school to learn as much as possible. Do we have room to grow? Of course! But we want to acknowledge the consistency and routines that you are putting into place to help your child be successful at school. Thank you!
Inclement Weather
Well, it would seem as though those lovely 70 and 80 degree temperatures are behind us for the season. With the approach of winter weather please be mindful of low temperatures and make sure your student is prepared for the conditions, such as a warm coat and gloves. Should the need arise to close schools due to hazardous weather, various communications from the school district will be sent out to families. In order to ensure you get those communications, you will need to make sure that your most up to date information is in ParentVue. Please click on the link below for more information regarding inclement weather.
One of my favorite sayings is, “If you believe you can, or if you believe you can’t, you are right.” Positive thinking is an important part of learning, managing stress, and overcoming challenges. We have been talking about using positive self-talk which means using the voice in your head to say positive things about yourself or a situation. I encourage you and your student to sit down and write out some positive statements and place them around where you can see them everyday!
There is no one better to be than myself.
I am enough.
I get better every single day.
I am an amazing person.
I can work through my problems.
My mistakes help me learn and grow.
I matter.
I can do hard things.
I can do better next time.
Everything will be okay.
At LOM we always have our students’ health and safety in mind, whether physical, mental or emotional. Mental well-being can be negatively affected by the amount of screen time children engage in and the content they are watching. If you are concerned about how to talk to your child about screen time, and keep tabs on what your child is exposed to, here are some websites our Health Assistant and Occupational Therapist researched for you.
