EGMS NEWSLETTER
FEBRUARY 2023
From the Desk of the Principal
Update on our December Service Projects: Checks in the amount of $566.12 were sent to both Make-A-Wish and The Nebraska Humane Society from the proceeds of the 6th Grade Candy Cane sales. Eighty-seven (87) gifts were purchased, wrapped, and donated by EGMS families to the Celebration of Giving Project through Womenade of Elkhorn. Twenty-one (21) boxes of canned goods were donated to the Western Douglas County Food Bank from donations collected by our Pack Leaders team at the December Dodgeball Tournament. Thank you to all who supported our community service projects and brightened the holidays for those less fortunate.
Elkhorn Grandview Middle School will be conducting parent-teacher conferences on February 14 & 15 from 4:00pm-7:30pm. There is no sign-up for Spring conferences but we would encourage students with last names A-M attend on Tuesday and last names N-Z attend on Wednesday if at all possible. Most teachers will be located in the gym with a few exploratory teachers holding conferences in their rooms. We encourage students to attend with their parents.
The EGMS Booster Club will be providing meals each night of conferences for the teachers. Please see the link below under EGMS Booster Club News to volunteer to donate items.
As always, if you feel you need a private conference with a teacher or the team, call or email the Team Teacher Point of Contact to set up your appointment:

All EGMS students will be taking state tests (NSCAS) during the month of April and a second administration of the MAP tests during May. All students in the district take these yearly. It gives teachers and administrators another means to measure student achievement. These are very important tests for your students and our school. We want to encourage students to do their best and show their capabilities. A detailed schedule will be shared next month.

Pack Leaders will be collecting pop tabs through the entire month of February! All pop tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House! 7th GRADE PARENTS
SCHOOL CLOSINGS DUE TO WEATHER
The district will be utilizing the School Messenger phone system to inform students and parents of school closings due to inclement weather. The district may call for a 2 hour late start or 2 hour early dismissal or cancel school for the day. If school is to have a delayed start or be canceled, announcements will begin at approximately 6:00 a.m. As a reminder, doors will NOT open before 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop students off before 7:30 a.m.
APPROPRIATE COLD WEATHER DRESS
Please remind your child to make sure they have appropriate clothing on when going to or from the school building. This includes, coats, gloves, hats, long pants and appropriate footwear. PLEASE DRESS WARM!
LUNCH REMINDERS
Please remind your students to drop off lunch money before school to the Sodexo staff in the lunchroom. It creates a slow down in the lunch line when it is turned in during lunch time. You may also make deposits into lunch accounts through the Parent Payment Portal on the district website: https://www.schoolpaymentportal.com
Thanks for your help!
ELECTRONIC DEVICES POLICY
We understand that cell phones, ear buds and other electronic devices are a part of today's society. We do, however, discourage these devices at school if at all possible. If your child needs to carry a phone, we ask that it be turned off during school hours and kept secure. Please be mindful that all communication with your child during school hours should be through the office. These devices can be distracting and risk being lost, stolen, or broken here at school. Any electronic device that creates a distraction to the learning environment may be confiscated with the expectation that it will be returned to a parent rather than the student.
