Volume 3, Issue 6 - September 20, 2019
We just received updated expectations from the Columbia Public Schools Athletic Department:
Game day/event rules for CPS middle and high school athletic events:
- No re-entry
- Students PreK-8 MUST have a parent/guardian present at the athletic event - this includes football, basketball, volleyball, cross country, track.
- Students cannot bring backpacks, fanny packs or bags into the venue. Student-athletes or students participating in the event are allowed to carry their items/necessary equipment in a bag/backpack into the venue. Adults are allowed to carry bags/backpacks into the venue.
This means any Gentry student who attends an athletic event, who is not on that specific athletic team, MUST have a parent or guardian who comes with them and stays the entire time. This is obviously a change from previous expectations.
Thank you for your understanding!

Media Center Minute
Thank you to all of the parents who came out this week for our Parent Technology Boot Camp. We appreciate the PTSA for giving us this opportunity to present to parents about technology at Gentry Middle School. Please have your student check their iPad to be sure it is updated to iOS 12.4.1. To do this go to Settings > General > Software Updates. If it says the iPad needs an update, go ahead and update it. Please note: They will need to be connected to WiFi and at least 50% charged in order for the update to complete. If it is not charged, you can plug in to a power source and it will update.
Sixth Grade Intramurals- Last Chance!
No School on Monday, September 30th
School will not be in session on Monday, September 30th due to a teacher work day. Enjoy your three day weekend!
EEE Field Trip
8th Grade EEE students spent the day at MU Venture Out. They participated in team-building activities on the ground as well as experiencing the Iliad and Odyssey Courses. The Odyssey High Ropes Course is a teambuilding-focused high ropes obstacle course. This two-level course is built to allow teams to accomplish goals 20 and 40 feet off the ground. After successfully navigating the course, the team celebrates their accomplishment by flying to the ground on a zipline. Venture Out is pure creative problem solving and affective team building—both of which are the foundation of EEE curriculum at the secondary level.
The goal of this trip was to provide a valuable and impactful experience to remember from middle school, and that the bond that is created between students during the team building carries over to the EEE classroom for the rest of the time they will have at Gentry and beyond. The community building that happened between them at Venture Out will have a significant impact on the trust and respect that will carry them in their teamwork for years after the trip. The value of the trip is not just a theory— it is tried and true by other EEE programs.
