All About STEM Academy

2021-22 Information Sessions

MISSION:

NEISD STEM Academy serves as a model of problem-based, technology-rich curriculum that enables and empowers students and faculty to engage in professional learning environments where science and math serve as vehicles for discovery, innovation, and independent problem solving.

FRAMEWORK:

Our Academy functions as school-within-a-school model and is located at Nimitz Middle School and LEE High School, respectively.

We have been serving the North East ISD community for more than 12 years.

There are approximately 120 students per grade level in grades 6 - 12.

We offer advanced and rigorous courses at all levels across the curriculum.

STEM CURRICULUM:

We use a problem-based learning approach with an emphasis on discovery, innovation and problem-solving.

We have full technology integration available in each of our classrooms.

Wherever possible, we use information from business partners and institutions of higher education to drive our approach to the curriculum.

The middle school program is focused upon an attitude of exploration. We want students to have meaningful experiences in order to determine their passions.

The high school program is designed to align students with their selected pathway (specialization) so that they graduate with a STEM Endorsement, and work-based experience in their chosen fields.

Regardless of the level, all students will be working to develop 21st century skills inclusive of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, information literacy, media literacy, technology literacy, and flexibility.

Students will interact with professionals in their field of study.

KEEPING 'AHEAD OF THE CURVE'

There are frequent college visit opportunities. Whether on campus or off, students are frequently presented with important college information to help them make an informed decision.

Annually, STEM Seniors are identified as National Merit Scholars.

THOSE WHO PLAY TOGETHER, STAY TOGETHER!

STEM students have the opportunity to participate in clubs and organizations within STEM Academy, as well as the main campus.
