Words to Action
How do you ensure that the good work taking place in learning meetings, in PLCs, and in your coaching meetings leads to results? Essential to that task is beginning with the end in mind. As you prepare for those meetings, what is your end goal? What do you want to affect about teacher practice? What action steps will lead to that?
Once you have determined your desired impact, it’s imperative that the expectation is well-defined. To make those expectations actionable, consider the following:
What specifically will teachers do?
When will they do it? How much time do they need?
Have you provided them the necessary resources and support to be successful?
When they complete the action step, what will be the result? How will they show it?
What opportunities will you provide teachers to share their new learning with each other? How will you help them refine their work in this area?
How will you sustain this learning and ensure it becomes a part of their daily practice?
How will you know when teacher learning has been successful?
Articulating those actions steps in clear terms will ensure the time you spending developing the skills of your teachers is maximized and leads to results...most importantly increased student learning.
