What did you like about their story?
May 18th -22nd
Math: This week will conclude our fraction unit. We will partition objects into equal parts and name the parts using words (halves, fourths, & eighths). We will explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fractional parts, the larger the part. We will use concrete models to count fractional parts beyond one whole using words and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole. We will wrap up the week with a fraction assessment where the students can demonstrate their understanding.
Reading: We will explore prefixes/suffixes and discuss how these can help us to determine the meanings of unknown words. We will also begin our Chapter Book or Genre Challenge...get your books ready!!!
Writing: In writing we will learn what it means to “Show, not Tell” within our stories. Students will write stories that contain enough details that they are able to show the reader what the characters and actions look like rather than just telling what happened.
Science: Students will continue to explore the processes in the water cycle, including evaporation, condensation, and precipitation, as connected to weather conditions. We will also use our weather data that we have collected over the past 10 days to create a weather graph and a reflection on the results of this graph.
