Brooks Crossing & Deans School Newsletter - 11/29/18
Welcome to our Brooks Crossing (BC) and Deans (DE) School Newsletter. We are a two-campus school community.
We are hopeful that you had a restful and enjoyable Thanksgiving break and are ready for the rush of the coming December holidays!
Throughout the year, please stay informed of school happenings and due dates by reading this monthly school newsletter, looking over our weekly Online Friday Folder by going to https://bcde.sbschools.org/school_information/friday_folders, and by checking your child's Parent/Teacher Communication folder daily. In the district's efforts to "go green", most of our information is only online, so it is very important to check our Online Friday Folder weekly!
Enjoy this edition of The Crossing!

Grades 3-5 First Semester Report Cards
Report Cards for students in Grades 3-5 will be available through the Genesis Parent Portal on December 20th. An email will be sent to the primary email address we have on file for you, informing you when grades are available to view in the Genesis Parent Portal.
Please be sure to set aside some time to review your child's report card with him or her. Congratulate your child for good or improved results, however, don't feel compelled to reward your child with expensive gifts. Simply setting aside some special one-on-one time with your child is a much better reward than material things, especially with the holidays so close. If your child's report card is not what you expected, it’s best to not react with a scolding or punishments. Such actions rarely have any long-term impact on improving school performance. Instead of punishment, work with your child to develop an action plan to improve his or her grades. This type of attitude will convey the message that results can be improved through careful planning and hard work. Some quality time spent with your child will set the tone for a more successful marking period.

School Spirit Days are sponsored by our BC Student Congress.
PTO Holiday Shop
Our popular annual PTO Holiday Shop will take place once again in December, just in time for the holidays! Details will be sent home and/or posted in our online Friday Folder. Your child may shop for family and friends during school hours. Teachers will be assigned a date and time when their students may shop.
Students attending the Deans campus will have an opportunity to shop on Wednesday, December 12th. Students who attend the Brooks Crossing Main Campus will shop on either Thursday, December 13th or Friday, December 14th. Look for details that will be sent home with your child. Please complete the shopping envelope in full (child's name, teacher's name, amount enclosed, etc.) and send it to school with your child prior to the date they are scheduled to shop.
If you are interested in volunteering to assist our young shoppers, please contact the PTO by emailing BrooksCrossingPTO@gmail.com.
Dress Prepared for Outside Recess!
Please dress your children prepared to go outside for recess and other activities daily! That includes a warm winter coat, hat and gloves. The colder weather is here, but fortunately our students will still be able to get outside on most days to enjoy healthy fresh air and a fun recess! Keep in mind that even when it is colder outside, our students may also go outside as part of a classroom activity and/or for physical education classes!
It is also helpful for your child to come dressed in layers. A light sweatshirt or sweater is always helpful for your child to feel comfortable throughout the day and sneakers are a MUST everyday!
Be sure to label your child’s clothing and other items (i.e. coats, hats, gloves, lunch boxes, water bottles). Unclaimed items in our Lost and Found are donated regularly.
Thank you for supporting our local South Brunswick Food Pantry
We appreciate everyone's support during the recent PTO sponsored food drives and collection to replenish much needed personal care items for those in need. Items are distributed through our local South Brunswick Food Pantry and Social Services. Your generosity is much appreciated! We are still collecting toiletries and personal care items until Monday, December 3rd. Bins are located at both BC and DE campuses.
