What is Self Image & Digital Identity
A digital identity is an online or networked identity adopted or claimed in cyberspace by an individual, organization or electronic device. These users may also project more than one digital identity through multiple communities. In terms of digital identity management, key areas of concern are security and privacy.
Louisiana Standards
Digital Identity can be introduced to students when they are in kindergarten and must be reinforced and mastered by the time they are in second grade due to the massive impact that the internet has on the education at this point in time.
What is a digital identity?
What Does This Look Like For My Class ?
In my classroom, I will be instructing my students to always be wary about what they put up on the internet. This will include passwords, Facebook posts, Instagram pictures, even Snapchat and text messages. I will be letting them know and understand that these things are not just private information and that future employers could see this information.
Tips For Students
- Pay attention to what hits that Facebook Wall
- Refrain from posting anything that could harm yourself or others professionally or personally.
- Always be thinking about the future and repercussions of that picture or text
Relationships and Communication
Online Relationships and Communication
Relationships are the way in which two or more people, groups, countries, etc., talk to, behave toward, and deal with each other. So, online relationships are how we do this online whether it be posting on social media or even texting others.
Louisiana Standards
Learning how to use age-appropriate technologies to communicate or work with others is introduced in Kindergarten, reinforced in first grade, and should be mastered by second grade.
In first grade, students are introduced to the dangers of online communication and how to use it safely. It should be reinforced in second grade, and mastered by third grade.

What Will This Look Like in My Classroom?
My students by this period should know about online communication, but it will be reinforced and gone over to ensure that every student knows how to keep communications online respectful and ensure that they know how to properly communicate to create friendly relationships.
Tips for Students
- Lean to communicate effectively and respectfully.
- Make friendships with people online that won't grow into detrimental issues.
- Try to ensure that everything you say online is respectful.
Information Literacy
What is Information Literacy?
Information Literacy is the ability to define problems in terms of their information needs, and to apply a systematic approach to search, locate, apply, and synthesize the information and evaluate the entire process in terms of effectiveness and efficiency.
Louisiana Standards
Information literacy can be introduced in second grade. Evaluating the usefulness of internet resources is introduced, but as far as performing individual research, it is optional.

What Will This Look Like in My Classroom?
I will be using Common Sense Media's Digital Literacy program to help my students by explaining copyrights and what is wrong. I will teach them how to create and build their own literacy projects to teach them what copyrights are and what they can be used for.
Tips For Students
- Pay attention to all information online and make sure that it is concrete.
- Focus on refining material to develop better searches.
- Ensure that all websites are credited in projects or papers.
