Facts about suicide

-Suicide takes the lives of nearly 40,000 Americans

-Between 1952 and 1995 the suicide rate tripled

-Over half of suicides are committed with a firearm

-For ages 15-24 old suicide is the second leading cause of death

-Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in America

Warning Signs

If you see someone with these signs tell a trusted adult!

-Talking about death

-Talking about feelings of hopelessness

-Sleeping too little or too much

-Extreme mood swings

-Loss of interest in things

-Acting recklessly



Suggestions for coping with suicidal thoughts

-Tell a friend or family member

-Get therapy

-Avoid drugs or alcohol

-Make goals

-Get outside and exercise. It is proven to help positive thoughts.
