Meet our new Staff!

Sophie Mootz; Learning Center Lead - My name is Sophie Mootz. I come from the Reynolds School District, where I spent the last twelve years teaching in a specialized focus classroom. I love being a special educator, because it gives me the opportunity to build close relationships with students and families. I am so excited to come to Beach Elementary, as it is close to my home and is known for its strong community.

Melissa Gilmore; Third Grade - Hello Third Grade Students!

I can’t wait to get to know you. I look forward to learning your favorite foods,

what sports and activities you enjoy, who your friends are, and helping you

increase your passion for learning.

I will share some things about myself so you can feel a bit more comfortable that

you know me. This is my fifth year teaching. Previously I taught fifth grade, a

fifth\sixth blend and middle school math on the Central Oregon coast. I was born

in NE Portland and lived there until I was twelve. I attended high school in

Medford, Oregon and graduated from the University of Oregon in Eugene.

I enjoy hiking, kayaking, Irish dance, Dr. Pepper and learning new ideas for our

classroom activities.

Our year ahead will bring challenges, unexpected surprises, fun and opportunities

for sharing. There are a lot of new things to learn and I am excited for us to get

Emily Richardson; Kindergarten - My name is Emily Richardson and I am thrilled to be joining the kindergarten team here at Beach Elementary. I am a graduate of Lewis and Clark's teacher education program, and am lucky enough to have ended up in the exact same room I was in as a student teacher. As an educator, I am passionate about delivering lessons that are engaging, meaningful, and culturally responsive. In our room, students are encouraged to embrace their autonomy, connect with other critical thinkers, and engage their creative problem-solving skills as we ask questions and grow together. Outside of school, you can find me kayaking with my dog Josie, whipping up crafts on the pottery wheel, and tending my plants. I am so thankful to the Beach community for making me feel so welcome already. I can't wait for the year ahead of us!
