BORAH HIGH SCHOOL

Fall Newsletter - 2018

From the Principal's Desk

The 2018-2019 school year is off to an awesome start! We finished the 2017-2018 school year with record achievement and participation numbers in our Advanced Placement classes. We had a record low number of D/F’s in all classes and continue to strive to provide academic assistance to all students in all classes. We set lofty academic goals for the new school year and are already seeing early successes. We currently have more Advanced Placement classes being taken by Borah students than ever before.

Back to School Night is September 10th at Borah from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 23rd from 4-7pm and Wednesday, October 24th from 4-7pm. We will not school on Friday, October 26th.

Social Work Services

Hello parents and guardians! My name is Becky Woodland and I am the Borah High School social worker. In addition to being available to assist families in need by way of connecting them with community resources and services, I am also pleased to offer a variety of support groups to interested students. Support groups are available to all students and are accessed by both those seeking connections and those needing intensive support. The purpose of a support group within the high school setting is to provide participants with a comforting, safe environment where which they feel free to express themselves. In addition to providing emotional support, group participation also allows students to establish meaningful and trusting relationships with their peers. Should your student choose to take advantage of this wonderful resource, a letter will be sent home to your attention notifying you of his or her participation in the group. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at Borah High School at 208.854.6916.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Tuesday, October 23rd & Wednesday, October 24th from 4-7pm.

Please plan on coming either night to review your student's progress and grades.

Borah Choir News

The fall is off to an exciting start in the choir classroom! All of the choirs are in full swing. This summer CDVE, Tactus, and Ars Nova held a car wash at AR Automotive (Victory and Cole) and raised close to $500! So proud of these kids and the work they put into the wash! Also- a huge shout out to AR Automotive for providing the location and loaning us a hose!

Seniors: Alma Tucakovic, Marshal McCall, Sarah Child, and Thomas Petersen started off our Welcome to the Jungle Assembly with an incredible arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner while CDVE closed the show with The Lion Sleeps Tonight. It was an awesome first week back in the jungle!

All the choirs are now busy at work for lots of upcoming music-making experiences. The fall concert, involving all choirs, is on October 16th in the Borah Auditorium at 7pm. Ars Nova and Tactus are participating in a Barbershop Clinic at the end of September at the Morrison Center, C.D.V.E. is traveling to Sun Valley in October as paid performers in the Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree, and Tactus and CDVE will also be performing with the Yale University Whiffenpoofs for a concert in October (date TBD). To close up October Tactus and CDVE will be traveling to five elementary schools for the 28th annual Halloween Tour! This is one of our FAVORITE traditions that we do!

We are very excited to collaborate with the theatre department to produce the musical “The Addams Family,” which shows November 1-3! We have double casted for this show because there were so many OUTSTANDING auditions! Congrats to all and we can’t wait to share this show with everyone!

There are so many opportunities for parents to be involved in the choral program! We will have a Choir Booster Meeting Monday, September 10th, directly following Back to School Night at 7:45pm in the Borah Auditorium! At this meeting we will cover chaperone, fundraising, and other volunteer opportunities! We will have a fundraising, follow-up meeting on October 11th at 6:00pm in the cafeteria. We will have pizza for all who attend. Students and their parents/guardians are encouraged to come. More information to follow!

Last, please mark your calendars for our annual Mattress Fundraiser in the cafeteria on November 10th! Last year, we raised over $8,700. Our goal for this coming year is $15,000! We can do it! Please spread the word!
