What's Going on at Conway Elementary
The 2020 school year is off to a superb start! As we conclude our first full week I wanted to take a moment and recognize all the parents and students out there that have made the return to school so successful and full of adventure. It has been wonderful to see every student, every day in some capacity whether students are participating in distance learning or are in person at CES.
Over the first nine days of schools, staff and students have worked hard to establish their classroom communities through a mixture of team building activities, outdoor experiences. creating classroom rules and establishing a team name for their classroom cohort. Make sure to connect with your children about their start of year experiences.
As we continue onward through the month of September students and staff will continue to create some amazing memories around the Conway El. experience.
Please reach out with any questions you may have.
Have a great weekend,
Jason Robert, Principal
Year of the Book Kick Off Event
Next Thursday, Conway Elementary will be kicking the Year of the Book with CLiF’s Executive Director Duncan McDougall. Duncan will be bringing and building enthusiasm to CES and will be working to set the stage for our staff and students for the Year of the Book by discussing all the exciting activities CES will take part in this year. In addition, he will also lead a storytelling presentation and discuss the joys of reading and writing. Students who are involved in distance learning will receive a link to join the event from their teacher early next week.
Nurse's Office Update from Mrs. Davison
Happy Return to School CES Families!
We are so happy to be back together and have so many of our students at school. To ensure that we all remain as healthy as we can and prevent the spread of illness, we are following NH Public Health guidance and doing things quite differently this year.
If your student is sick (even with mild illness) please keep them home and contact the office to report their absence. We ask that you contact your physician and request testing for Covid 19 if your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms:
Fever above 100.0 degrees, chills
Cough
Sore throat
Nasal congestion, runny nose
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
Your child may return to school after meeting one of the following criteria:
Documentation of negative COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen) received by CES prior to return AND symptoms are resolved according to usual school policy
OR
Current documentation from the medical provider that specific symptoms are chronic (not new) and part of a pre-existing medical condition
OR
(If no testing is conducted) child has completed 10 days home isolation AND is fever free (without fever-reducing medication) for 24 hours
We are encouraging everyone to please talk to your doctor about getting a flu vaccine. Please let me know if I can do anything to help you facilitate this process or answer any questions.

School Counselor and Family Liasion
Hello Conway Elementary School Families,
We are excited to announce that Mrs. Burke and Mrs. McDonald have created a School Counselor/Family Liaison website for parents. You will find information about us and our roles at school and contact information, as well as news, events, and resources. We also created a parent survey that is located on the home page of our site. The survey allows us to see how parents/students are doing and respond to any needs you may have. We are asking parents to fill this out ASAP for the month of September and then each month after that.
Here is the link for the website (the parent survey is on the home page): https://sites.google.com/sau9.org/cesscfl/home
You can also find it on the Conway Elementary School website under school counselor/family liaison: http://www.conwaycougars.com/
We hope that the first few weeks of school have gone well for you and your child(ren).
Sincerely,
Kristen Burke, CES School Counselor
Mandy McDonald, CES Family Liaison
Food Service
FREE School Meals for all Students!
Due to the extension of a waiver from the USDA, all meals will be provided to students FREE OF CHARGE through either December 31, 2020 or until their funding is exhausted - whichever comes first. We encourage you to take advantage of this benefit. Meals are available for distance learners to pick up on Mondays and Wednesdays.
If your student is a distance learner and you have not yet signed up to pick up meals on Mondays and Wednesdays and you would like them, please email Kadie Wilson at k_wilson@sau9.org.
However, even though meals are being provided for free right now, we still need you to apply for free/reduced lunch benefits. Qualifying has a positive effect on our grant allocations each year. If you even think you might qualify, please complete the application. You can apply online using the link https://secure.ezmealapp.com/ApplicationScreen.aspx or you may complete a paper application that was mailed out earlier this week.
Reminders
- Make sure information in PowerSchool is up to date. It helps the school be able to contact you as needed.
- For safety purposes, please stay in a single-wide line during drop off and pick up.
- Keep up the great job with the at-home screening!
