MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Ben Franklin Families,
First, I hope this message finds you well in our final week of new virtual learning for students! As this school year winds down and I reflect on what we’ve learned and how we’ve worked together on keeping students engaged in school, I can’t say enough how much all of your support, feedback, and work are appreciated. Sincerely, thank you SO much. :) Thank you for working to keep your students engaged this final week and prioritizing them meet with their classes one last time or two on June 8 and 9. Having that closure to this unusual school year is essential. We appreciate your understanding and encouragement for participation very much!
Next week on June 9 and 11 families will be able to pick up students’ items from school. The directions were emailed directly to you on May 22. If you need the link, here they are one more time. If you have questions, need an adjusted pick up time, or anything else, please feel free to reach out to me or Mrs. Behrens. We will be happy to help you out. I have had a few families ask about how to go about giving thank you gifts to staff members. Feel free to enclose those in a separate package with your teacher’s name on it and clearly label it as a gift. We’ll then separate this out from other returned classroom supplies and ensure that staff get them. Thank you as well for taking the time to review the student item pick up procedures for Ben Franklin and for reaching out if you have questions.
Please enjoy this week’s staff read aloud books! <3 We hope they’re continuing to bring you joy and another way to connect as a family. You can check out the read alouds from previous weeks (see links below) as well if you’ve got a favorite. Thanks for taking the time to check them out. We’ve loved creating them for you!

Have a fantastic week,

PAWS DAY IS WEDNESDAY
SUMMER VIRTUAL LEARNING PROGRAM 1st-8th IS RUNNING!
As we have shared over the past few weeks, we have been actively exploring the options for offering a 1st through 8th Grade virtual summer learning program. We are excited to announce that Franklin Public Schools will offer a virtual summer learning program for students entering grades 1-8 in the fall of 2020.
We have developed rich online learning opportunities for your child to engage in during July. If you would like your child to enrich their learning through challenging online opportunities facilitated by our FPS staff, please consider registering your child for the FPS 1st-8th Summer Learning Program. All classes are 45 minutes and include live lessons from the FPS staff member teaching the course. Registration information will be directly emailed to all families on Tuesday, June 2 and registration will be open from Tuesday, June 2 through Monday, June 8 and is not first-come, first-serve.

HAPPY HOME
The ES3 team would like to share a new feature with you called Happy Home. Each week we will pass along some tips to help keep your home as happy and healthy as possible during Safer at Home. ES3 is a three-year state-funded grant program with the mission of improving outcomes for students who require social and emotional support. We can ALL use social and emotional supports, especially now, so we hope you enjoy!
Deposits to Your Child’s Emotional Bank Account
Our tips this week focus on family wellness and strengthening positive relationships. A useful concept shared below encourages parents and guardians to make regular “deposits” in their child’s emotional account. This involves intentional opportunities to connect in positive ways with children throughout the day. Each time we acknowledge appropriate behavior, express appreciation, notice and praise expected behavior is a deposit and strengthens family bonds while also building a child’s self-confidence. ATTENTION 5th GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS:
Wisconsin Student Immunization Law requires that all students entering the 6th grade receive a dose of Tdap vaccine. To be compliant with state law, Franklin Public Schools must be provided with proof of an immunization or a waiver must be claimed. If your child has not already received the Tdap vaccine, work with your pediatrician or primary care provider to schedule the vaccine. Many local pediatricians and family care providers will be restarting (if they haven’t already) well child appointments and/or will be completing necessary immunizations. Record the date of the immunization in the appropriate box on the student immunization record link below and sign the form. The state of Wisconsin allows for waivers for immunization due to health, religious, or personal conviction reasons. To do so, follow the instructions on the student immunization record and sign the form. All signed forms can be emailed, faxed or dropped off? If you have any questions, please contact Lori O’Neil, District Nurse at lori.oneil@franklin.k12.wi.us Please click here for the immunization fact sheet.
