Instructional Coach-Instructional Strategy Resource:
Looking for a way for transitions to run more effectively and a structure for strengthening behavior expectations in your classroom? CHAMPS is a system of expectations (credit Randy Sprick, over thirty years of classroom research) that streamlines any set of rules, rewards and consequences that you are already implementing. For those of you that have worked with me to implement an Act/Talk/Move chart, this is a very similar structure. View CHAMPS in action (worth your 5 minutes) https://youtu.be/cOdbLvGo5-Q
An Example for Guided Math (Teacher working with a small group and students at work stations)
Conversation (Can students talk to each during this activity?) Inside Voice, Level 2, use question stems and word bank
Help (How do students get the teacher’s attention and their questions answered?) Ask your group first, if you all are unsure send one scholar up to the small table to ask teacher
Activity (What is the task/objective? What is the end product?) Station 1-math game, station 2-indepenedent practice at desk, station 3-work with teacher, station 4-use manipulative to solve the problems
Movement (Can students move about during this activity?) Stay at your work station
Participation (How do students show they are fully participating? What does work behavior look/sound like?) Everyone participates, do you best work
Success If you meet CHAMPS expectations, you will reach success!
