Number Hawks is Coming Back to Holmes

Do you want to help support our children’s math development? Number Hawks Tutoring Program is a tutoring program coming back to Holmes! It is a volunteer-based tutoring program for students in K-2. The goal of this program is to:

1) Increase number sense;

3) Encourage flexibility, accuracy, and efficiency in math.

If you’d like to help students with math at the school, we are looking for parent volunteers to help. Tutoring will take place once a week, on Tuesdays, for 30 minutes per grade level.

District 97 Seeking Nominations for New Monthly Profile Series

This year, District 97 is launching a campaign titled "We are D97." As part of this campaign, we plan to profile one student or staff member each month to help highlight the tremendous work being done across the district to advance our vision, achieve our goals, and create a strong sense of community and belonging. Learn more about the campaign and how you can nominate someone to be profiled >

Putting the Icing on the Cake

With the construction project winding down, we have the opportunity to begin working on enhancing the grounds.

At our request, the contractor left a large section in front of the school where we can plant a flower garden. Our goal/idea is that all students will be involved in planting and caring for the garden.

My initial thought was to plant fall bulbs, but I now realize that much more is needed to keep it looking amazing from spring through fall.

The immediate need is for help in designing the garden. If you are a landscape designer, have a connection to a landscape designer, or just have a passion for gardening we need your expertise. A design would be needed by October 5th to ensure enough time for gathering materials and planting. Please contact Margaret O'Malley, momalley@op97.org, if you are able to assist in the design process.

Our garden project needs to be fully funded with donated time and materials. Our students, along with teachers and staff, will provide the gardening labor. Though I'm sure additional help will be needed.

Once we have a design in place, we will reach out again for donations of plants and bulbs.

We're optimistic that the garden can be planted this fall and are already anticipating the kaleidescope of color and texture that will bloom come spring.

Early Childhood Screenings

District 97's special education department is offering free early childhood screenings for children ages 3 to 5. You can access additional information about these screenings, which are by appointment only, by visiting http://bit.ly/2QqDIXJ.
