Beach Buddies' Bulletin
November 6-10, 2017
Hello Kindergarten Families!
50 days of kindergarten already! Wow! What a close little class family we have become. We had a fun Friday filled with stations, floats, dancing, and more!
50th Day of School
Thanks for the donations! More pictures to come next week.
Writers' Workshop
In writers' workshop we worked on editing our writing. We used a checklist to CHECK our writing for things like star words, punctuation, and spaces.
Readers' Workshop
In readers' workshop we made book to book connections. We connected books that showed characters with great GRIT-- they didn't give up even when things got hard!
Math Workshop
In Math workshop we told addition and subtraction number stories, made numbers with 10's and 1's, and explored the balance scale.
Report Card Evnvelope
Please remember to sign and return your report card envelope. Thank you!
Take Home Books
Thank you for reading your child's book packet at home. Remember, one book should be a book your child reads to you (pointing to the first LETTER of each word) and one book is a book you will read to your child. The kindergartners select these books from their book basket and the book center. They do this independently so I don't always know exactly what is going inside. If your child isn't getting new books or is bringing home books that are too hard or too easy, just let me know. I will then give your child more support in selecting take home books.
Homework
At conferences, a few of you mentioned wanting some "homework" type papers sent home for your child to practice K skills. Reading our book packets (shown above) and practicing star words are the most important things to do at home, but I am happy to supply additional practice if you would like. Please reply to this email if you are interested in this extra "homework".
Buuurrrr
Winter temps definitely are here! Thank you for being conscious of sending warm recess clothes each day. The kindergartners are getting better and better at quickly dressing themselves. If your child wears tie shoes, please be sure your child can independently tie them. Thank you!!
Scarecrow Day
Friday is Scarecrow Day! We'll be making felt vests in school, but the kinders are also invited to wear other scarecrow gear such as hats, flannel shirts, boots, jeans, etc. We will also use a small amount of face paint. If you DO NOT want your child using face paint, please let me know.
** Thank you for your help with yet another dress up day-- I promise we will have a break with "special days" until mid-December when we have Grinch Day and that's just to wear green! :) Easy, right?! Thank you!!!
