Our Mission
A Note from the Principal
It's hard to believe that we are approaching the end of the school year already! We have many exciting events coming up. On Monday, April 17th the fourth and fifth grade students will begin ISTEP testing via paper/pencil. We will take social studies and science online. Our third grade students will begin testing on April 18th using paper/pencil. Please make sure your children get plenty of rest the nights before testing.
It is during this time of year that I begin to receive inquires about whether parents can request a teacher for their children for next school year. Just as this has been in the past, we do NOT accept teacher requests. However, I feel strongly that you know your child best and may have information that would be helpful in finding the best placement. You are welcome to send me a short letter detailing what you know about your child. All such letters should come to the main office in a sealed envelope to my attention or by email to jthacker@plainfield.k12.in.us by May 5th.
Submission of this information in no way guarantees a particular placement; there are many factors that go into dividing students into classrooms. Many students are able to learn and grow effectively with a variety of teachers' styles and because we have such an outstanding staff, most students could be placed anywhere and thrive!
Although we are talking with excitement about next year, we will continue to remain focused on the great deal of learning which will happen over the next two months.
Sincerely,
Julie Thacker

Be on the lookout for an informational letter, permission slip, and fundraising packet for this year's Annual Corporation-Wide Elementary School Walk-a-thon. These will come home with your student the week we return from Spring Break, so this week! This huge event raises money for the elementary school budgets to fund field trips, convocations, and other fun student activities throughout the school year. Students will be eligible to earn fun prizes for their fundraising and participation efforts. Check the packet and the Central PTO Facebook page for more details!
ISTEP PHASE 2
The second phase of ISTEP will be starting April 17th. We are confident that our students are prepared and ready to show what they have been working very hard on learning this year. Our teachers are proud of how their students have performed so far for ISTEP and keeping a positive attitude about the test!
Running Club starts April 4th
Do you like to run? Then you should join the Central Running Club. It is open to students in 2nd-5th grades and will meet from April 4th through May 2nd.
Where: Meet in the gym and run outside, Rain or Shine!
When: Tuesdays from 4-5pm please make sure you are here promptly at 5:00 to pick up your child. You can pick them up in the horseshoe parking lot. Please stay in your car and pull around the horseshoe and we will send them out to you. If you are late, your child may be excused from the club!
Why: To stay healthy, get in shape, and build stamina.
Need: Appropriate running shoes that lace up, socks, a snack, a drink, appropriate running clothes (try to avoid jeans) and a good attitude. There will be time before practice starts to eat a snack and change clothes if needed.

CAFE NEWS:
We love to see you come eat with your children! But PLEASE remember to bring
exact cash or check with you to purchase lunch for yourself or another visitor. We only have a small amount of cash in the register and cannot make change. Lunch is $2.30.
Also, since we have no way of knowing who puts money on the account, you cannot use your child's lunch card balance towards the purchase of your own lunch.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.
Currently Enrolled Students who are returning for the 2017-2018 Year

This will be a quicker and more efficient way to confirm and instantaneously update our returning students' profiles. Parents who had not already created a PowerSchool Parent log-in have been contacted over the past couple of weeks as a reminder to do so. The parent portal on PowerSchool is linked here.

Central C.H.A.M.P.S
Central Elementary is excited to share our Positive Behavior Intervention Support program. Our program is rooted in Central character and the idea that Champions Make Choices and Choices Make Champions. Our faculty was involved in creating and defining a Central CHAMPS student.
The following defines what it means to be a CHAMPS student:
Caring
Honest
Achievement
Making good choices
Prepared to learn
Safety
Furthermore, we have defined our Central Champs expectations in all areas throughout our school. In a continued effort to recognize our students making good choices, as well as build our climate and culture, we are going to begin our school-wide incentive program using Brag Tags. All students will receive a necklace and a Central tag to start with to be worn every Friday. This is a way to acknowledge the hard work and positive behavior of our students. Additional tags will be awarded one time a month.

Scott is an excellent example of reliability. He is a student who is consistently dependable and trustworthy. I know that if I need help, or if I need something done in the classroom, Scott is a very reliable person to ask and will make sure it gets done. He is a great leader in the classroom that is able to be trusted with big responsibilities.

Changing the End of the Day Transportation Routine
The following information is simplified from our handbook:
- If your child is to go home a way different than their normal arrangement, you must send in a note to the teacher with instructions as to how the child is to go home.
- Please make these arrangements before school or by 1:00 p.m. at the latest.
- If you call requesting that your child become a car rider, you are required to come into the school office to sign out your child. Your child will be waiting in the office lobby until you sign them out.
- If you call requesting that your child ride a bus home instead of being a car rider, we will need to verify that we are speaking to the child’s parent/guardian
- Finally, please note that e-mail notifications of changes for the end of the day ride home will not be accepted.
