OECHS Class Updates
English
English II Honors: This week, students completed their first formal writing assignment for English II. They conducted a graded peer review, and this week, we began our study of The Kite Runner. Continuing our analysis of the hero archetype in world literature, students analyzed Middle Eastern culture and representations of the modern everyman hero in a 21st century literary work. Additionally, students were introduced to their Kite Runner projects, which they will begin next week in class. Should students need additional supplies to complete their project, please feel free to contact me at Rebecca.huggins@onslow.k12.nc.us.
Projects are due February 12 and will be presented to the class on the 12th and 13th.
Parents are encouraged to check students' One Notes to see what materials they should be completing nightly for English II. Students will have a reading assignment almost every night during a novel study. Please ensure your students' success by helping them to be vigilant in completing their assignments. Feel free to email with any questions or concerns.
English IV Honors: This week students finished their initial annotation for rhetorical appeals and devices of Martin Luther King Jr’s “Letter from the Birmingham Jail.” Students first annotated for the appeals of logos and pathos, following up with identifying supporting rhetorical devices. Students spent several days working during class time. Now students will finish and finalized annotations this weekend. Not only did students have their regular ACT Prep vocabulary, they also did extensive work with the comprehensive vocabulary of the text. Beginning next week, students will be working toward rhetorical essay organization. The essay will be broken into manageable steps. The final essay due date has moved forward to Monday February 10, 2020. Suggested, but not required, readings are posted in TEAMS. The readings may help students understand the rhetorical analysis format.
