Senior Guidance Department News Bulletin-vol 1

Spring Semester Info

It is probably hard to believe that you will only have one more semester left of high school in a few days. Does it seem like just yesterday you were entering the halls of Swainsboro High School for the first time as a 9th grader? Congratulations on all of your hard work to make it to this point.

Graduation will be upon us before we know it. There are a few things you will need to be aware of for the spring. If you have not taken the ACT or SAT yet and plan to attend college, you need to register to take at least one of these tests. The next SAT date is January 23 and the deadline to register is December 28. The ACT is being offered at Swainsboro High School on February 6. The deadline for this registration is January 8. I would advise registering before you leave for the semester. You can come by the Guidance Office to see if you qualify for a fee waiver.

College bound seniors, once your parents receive their W-2's, make sure to apply for the FAFSA at This is the FREE website you go to apply for financial aid for college. If the site asks for any type of payment, it is a scam website! The funds are awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Therefore, the sooner you do this, the better.

Christmas break is also a good time to work on college applications and scholarships. Remember that most college applications can be done on Contact me if you do not remember your login information. GACollege411 is a good resource to look for scholarships as well as to see which colleges offer which majors.

Several people have asked about scholarships. I am including a list of some national scholarships as well as our local scholarship list. The local scholarships mainly start becoming available mid-spring but it is a good idea to begin looking into which ones you may qualify for now.

I hope y'all have a wonderful holiday season! Please let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. You can reach me at my email address, I will see you all when you return in January.
