Hurricane Relief Fundraiser
Dear Oak Middle School Families,
I hope you are enjoying the wonderful weather this weekend.
Thank you to all who contributed to the "Hats On" for Hurricane Relief Fundraiser - between Oak Middle School and Sherwood Middle School we will be able to make a substantial donation to the American Red Cross Foundation providing help to those in need. We are still calculating the total amount donated so stay tuned for that information. Then, of course, we are still waiting to figure out if Mr. Kelly or I will receive the pie!
Looking ahead we have a few action packed weeks!
This Friday, October 21, 2022 the Community Service and Leadership Club is sponsoring a Wear Pink Day to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Students are asked to wear pink to support this important cause. CSLC will also have pink ribbons available to anyone who needs something pink that day to show their support.
On Monday, October 24, we are having a Sandy Hook Promise Presentation. This presentation will be virtual and students will be viewing the presentation by homeroom. “The mission of Sandy Hook Promise is to educate and empower youth and adults to prevent violence in schools, homes, and communities. Through our evidence-informed ‘Know the Signs’ programs, we teach young people and adults to recognize, intervene, and get help for individuals who may be at risk of hurting themselves or others.” Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns with this upcoming presentation.
The Student Council has planned a spirit week starting on Tuesday, October 25, and ending on Tuesday, November 1. Please check out the Student Council newsletter HERE for more information.
The PTO and Student Council will be hosting the Oak Fall Social on Friday, November 4th. The seventh grade dance will run from 4:30-6:00; the eighth grade dance will run from 6:30-8:00. Tickets are $5 and will be sold at lunch the week of October 31st. We will need chaperones and other volunteers - Oak Fall Social.
Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Tuesday, November 8. There will be no school that day.
We are looking for members of our Oak Community who have served or are currently serving in one of the branches of the US armed forces (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard). We want to recognize their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to keeping our country safe at the upcoming Veteran’s Day Assembly. Please complete this form to recognize your family/friend and their service to our country.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns as our goal is to work together to make sure each and every child has a wonderful year at OMS.

A Message from the Front Office and Nursing Staff
It has come to our attention that students are contacting their parents via text or phone call to be picked up from school. If your child texts or calls you during the school day that they are not feeling well or want to go home, please direct them to see the school nurse. You can notify the nurse’s office (508-841-1204 or oaknurse@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us) that your child has contacted you and needs to be seen. The nurse will evaluate your child and be in contact with you about next steps. Thank you for helping our students to follow our safety guidelines and protocols.
Parent Teacher Conferences
A reminder that Parent/Teacher Conferences are on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Conferences will be held in person this year unless a parent or guardian requests a Zoom meeting.
At the middle school level not all parents will receive an invitation to have a conference. Please know that if you do not receive an email to meet with your child’s teachers on Parent Conference Day, you can always reach out separately to ask questions or set up a time to meet with your child’s teachers.
Veteran's Day Assembly
We are looking for members of our Oak Community who have served or are currently serving in one of the branches of the US armed forces (Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, National Guard). We want to recognize their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to keeping our country safe at the upcoming Veteran’s Day Assembly. Paraprofessional Support Staff
Shrewsbury Public Schools are seeking to hire paraprofessional support staff. We are very pleased that we are 99% fully staffed for teacher and other professional educator roles as we start the school year. Like in many employment sectors in the current economy, we are also working hard to fill certain open positions. If you or someone you know is interested in making a positive difference in the life of a child, please consider joining us as a paraprofessional in our schools. We are in need of: child-specific aides who work to support individual students with special learning needs; applied behavior analysis technicians who typically work to support individual students on the autism spectrum; and special education instructional assistants. Experience working with children is a plus but not required, and we will provide training. There are positions open at all grade spans, both full-time with benefits and part-time, and the hours are great for parents with children in school. For more information and to apply, please go to https://schools.shrewsburyma.gov/hr/currentopenings. Please forward this information along, including to local college students seeking part-time work and those considering a career change to education. If you have questions, please email Lindsey Stasiowski, Human Resources Manager, at lstasiowski@shrewsbury.k12.ma.us or call her at (508) 841-8483. Thank you!
Early Dismissal Procedures
Please send a note from home with your child. They will bring it to the main office, and be given a pass.
