Principal's message - week 23
Greetings North Plains Families!
It is so great to be back at North Plains Elementary with all the kids! I hope you all had a wonderful break and are rested, healthy, and ready for 2018!
We had a great PTO meeting this morning and talked about many of the exciting things coming up throughout the rest of the school year. Our next meeting will be on Jan. 18 at 5:00 PM so hopefully more parents can make it. If you want input as to what events happen at NPES, please come and be a part of PTO! The link to the PTO Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/NORTHPLAINSELEMENTARY/ and to access their website, go to https://www.hsd.k12.or.us/domain/935
Next Friday morning, Jan. 12, we will have another positive recognition assembly at 7:55AM. Many students have received "Shining Star" awards from their teachers and we read them and give them out during the assembly. We will also announce which class won the attendance award for the month of Dec. Parents are welcome but know that this is really low key and intended for the kids:)
In my last newsletter I reminded you about a great book for families called "Table Talk Math" that is a great resource for parents to bring math into every day conversations. Tuesday, Jan. 23 will be a family night where we will have discussions on topics from the book. We will have 2 break outs, one for families with students in grades K-2, and one for families with students in 3-6. If you are interested in the book, the link to find it is https://www.amazon.com/Table-Talk-Math-Practical-Conversations/dp/1946444022/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496765989&sr=8-1&keywords=table+talk+math
OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) is up and running for students in grades 3-6. There are sign up sheets for teams in the office and battles will begin at lunch in a couple of weeks. We are still looking for parent volunteers to come in and help with lunchtime battles, so if you are able to help or just want more information, please email Renee Ramey at mailto:only2be@gmail.com
DARE started this week for 4th grade students. Thanks to our PTO, we are one of the few elementary schools that still provides Drug Abuse Resistance Education for our students. This will happen every Thursday for the next 7 weeks and will end with all students in 4th grade receiving certificates of completion at an assembly.
Be sure to check the link at the bottom for the updated lost and found information!
Have a great weekend!
Becky
