Alder Weekly Update
Week of February 21, 2021
Message from the Principal
Hello Students, Parents, and Staff!
Well, here we are approaching the end of another successful week. Our teachers are preparing for Monday virtual instruction to be delivered back in their classrooms. Administrators are preparing for an upcoming change where our in person students will no longer be in Hybrid Group A or B. They will be combined into a 4 day in person learning group, attending school Tuesday through Friday. Mondays will remain virtual. We are checking number and trying to arrange spaces that will allow for safety and proper distancing.
Coming up on March 3rd, the Atlantic County School Boards Association is hosting an 8th Grade Dialogue. Using a virtual platform, they will listen to 8th grade student representatives across our county about Covid concerns and education during the pandemic. I am pleased to share that our representative will be Osariemen Unuigbe. Hopefully, I can share with you next week about her experiences.
A reminder again to please forward any pictures of events or your children with friends that we can put in our yearbook. This will be a yearbook to remember, because it will be put together with your help. Our Yearbook Advisor, Mrs. Battersby shared that any community sports and activities are welcome. We would also love pictures that show your child with friends in our community. Send any pictures to battersm@eht.k12.nj.us
We are looking forward to entering the month of March and some warmer weather- at least I am! We have Read Across America Week next week. Mrs. Pistois has planned some great activities- all centered around a love of reading by adults and students alike.
Finally, any issues with health, quarantine concerns, or Covid symptoms, our school nurse is available as follows:
Melanie Charlton- charltom@eht.k12.nj.us 609-383-3366 ext. 1411
Please remember that if you travel to restricted areas and other states, there are quarantine restrictions for returning to school. We are here to help, so please call if you have any questions or if issues arise in which we can help.
Enjoy your weekend and stay safe!

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Green Team ELA Classes
This week, students in Mrs. Watts's English class presented Two-Voice Poems about a novel they read in class called A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. After spending several weeks reading and learning about life in Southern Sudan, students wrote these Two-Voice poems in order to compare the two characters in the story. The students enjoyed being able to be creative and even shared their poems by reading them with a partner.
Blue Team Science
Mrs. Little's kids taking Mrs. Hinlicky's Science Quiz, surrounded by candy they earned during a quick review. We kept tally marks for students that answered from home and they will get their candy at a later date, except Sophie who rewarded herself at home for all of her correct answers!
