TOP STORY: College Night
For the first time in three years, all levels of H-F students are invited to attend College Night, set for Monday, Oct. 17, in the Fieldhouse. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., when students and parents are invited to explore nearly 150 colleges and universities. Representatives will be able to provide information about their institutions and answer questions regarding admissions, programs of study, financial aid, housing, athletics and more.
All levels of students — from freshmen to seniors — are encouraged to attend. Students are encouraged to register at www.StriveFair.com, so they can easily provide their information to colleges and universities that they are interested in at the event. Once you register, you will be provided a QR code on the day of the event that includes your contact information; reps will then be able to scan your QR code to better communicate with you and send you more information about their institution in the weeks to come.
For a comprehensive list of attending institutions, please visit www.hfhighschool.org/resources/college___career_planning.

Operation Snowball: Sign up now!
Offered at H-F since 1981, Operation Snowball is a weekend experience provided for H-F students to build confidence, help them be a positive influence on each other, share accurate information for decisions about their lives and "help healthy kids stay healthy." It is founded on the belief that with accurate information and an understanding of one’s self, every person has the ability to make sound decisions regarding his or her life. It is a program focusing on prevention through educational growth by promoting personal social development. It emphasizes the benefits of sharing feelings and thoughts with each other. Grade 9-12 teens participate in large group sessions, mini workshops and small groups in which feelings and concerns may be openly discussed in a confidential atmosphere. It is an experience you will never forget! This year Snowball will run Nov. 17-20 at Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort. Staff director is Mrs. Maul, H-F school counselor; teen directors are Phoebe Bosch, Jada Marsh, Mary Holland, Haley Harrington & Amelia Wachtel (pictured above, l. to rt.). Registration will run until Oct. 22 ($135); late registration will run Oct. 23-26 ($160).
Wellness Wednesdays return Oct. 19
H-F students, the Guidance Office invites you to participate in Wellness Wednesdays, social-emotional intervention time used to proactively teach healthy life skills. At these sessions offered on Wednesdays during Period 4 (1:55-3 p.m.) in South Room G5, you will learn, practice and process a specific topic. You may attend up to one session per quarter. Upcoming October sessions are:
- Oct. 19 — Yoga with Serendipity Yoga & Wellness
- Oct. 26 — Rich vs. Wealthy with Mr. Suarez, school counselor
Click here to register for a session! Questions? Contact Mrs. White, social worker, at 708-335-5554, lauren.white@hf233.org.

Gloria brought the colorful creation to campus to promote Homewood's Dia de los Muertos / Day of the Dead Festival, which will take place this Saturday, 10/15, in downtown Homewood. Learn more about the festival here...

Blue Returned Home
Blue, the blue & gold macaw who resides in our ZooBot classroom, was returned to the school late Friday night after having been missing for several days. He had fluttered off when staying at home with a student the previous weekend. Thank you to all who helped look for Blue, or who helped spread the word, or provided clues to finding Blue, especially Marilyn Thomas at the H-F Chronicle and Marybel Gonzalez from CBS2 Chicago! Students & staff are very relieved to have him back home, and Blue seems quite happy to be back, too! Here is some of the media coverage that helped get him back to H-F:
