Grapevine Middle School
Pony Band
December 15th, 2017
We are frequently reminded that we have the BEST job ever teaching your students MUSIC! If you get a chance, please check out the recent TED video we posted on the Grapevine Middle School Band FaceBook page on how playing an instrument benefits your brain. It has some remarkable research that shows how much of your brain is involved when playing an instrument versus listening to music. Fireworks basically go off in your brain!!!!
Thank you for allowing us to teach your students every day. We had a WONDERFUL concert on Wednesday night. THANK YOU for all of your support. We know how busy the family life has become and we appreciate the time and energy you all have put into your student's music education.
Monday, December 18th - Wednesday, December 20th, we will be having "Dinner with a Purpose" at Wise Guys in Grapevine. Students received a flyer to present at the time of purchase and Wise Guys will donate 15% of the food bill to the Grapevine Middle School Band. In turn, we will give a portion of the proceeds to GRACE. Please help us in supporting this great organization and our very own program.
Honors & Symphonic Band students need to pass-off all of their scales to go to the Scale Party in February! Over break, they need to practice their scales and pass them off upon return to become a Scale Superstar! We are also changing our focus towards the GCISD Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 3rd at Cross Timbers Middle School. Most students have received their ensemble and the rest will receive their ensemble music next week. A letter will be sent home with information before break.
Beginner Band students will be working on Rhythm Rockers, Scales, their book and Supplemental material. We are also changing our focus towards the GCISD Ensemble Contest on Saturday, February 3rd at Cross Timbers Middle School. Students will receive their music next week. A letter will be sent home with information before break.
As always, it is an honor to be your student's teacher!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Gish and Mr. Holmes
