Where are we?
We have our ROAR program in place within our school. We also utilize our matrix in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria, playground and other common areas. These behavioral expectations are communicated with all students and parents on a consistent basis.
We also utilize our ROAR pledge each morning to remind ourselves and our students of the expectations.
Finally, we reward positive behaviors with "Caught Being Good" tickets.
Our PBIS team has been working hard during the 1st semester looking over our school's behavioral data, surveys from you, and other data points in order to determine the best way to move forward.
Where are we going?
The PBIS Team created a flow chart to be utilized by all adults in the building. If you do not have a copy of this flow chart (it's bright orange and laminated) please let Mrs. Porras know and she will get you a copy.
One side is a flow chart for behavioral intervention steps that should be utilized. The opposite side has definitions of common behaviors divided into major and minor offenses. Please look over this chart and review this when working with students to correct problematic behaviors.
So, what's this about a PBIS Walk Through?
On Thursday, a team of 3 -5 people from our county will come into our building. They will look for:
- Evidence of our ROAR plan/expectations throughout the building (hallways, bathrooms, classrooms, cafeteria) - It's done!!
- The team will each speak to 5 students - they will ask them, do you know your school's expectations? Do you know what ROAR stands for?
Review this and I'm positive all our amazing Panther students will get top marks!
- The team will also each speak to 5 staff members - they will ask you:
1. Do we have a team that addresses behavior/discipline across the school? WE do!!! Our PBIS team meets monthly to analyze discipline data and help make decisions for our school.
2. Can you name the School-wide Expectations? Of course, you can!! ROAR and explain how you utilize this in your classroom.
3. Have you taught the School-wide Expectations? Again - of course, you have! Share a story of how you've done this effectively!
4. Have you seen the schools discipline data this year? Hopefully, your PBIS team member has shared information with you on what we've been doing. We also had our kickoff in January where we shared the flow chart with you that was produced from survey results that you all completed about our current ROAR plan.
Finally, they will check our PBIS notebook, which is up here in the office! We've got it! :)
I know that was a lot to read, but I wanted you all to feel comfortable and confident that you know these answers and that we will have a great walk-through.
