Sad News regarding an Oakley Park dad

Last Saturday, May 14th, Mr. Jeremy Maurer, father of Henry (3rd grade) , Anna (7th grade) and husband of Jessica (our PTA president) passed away suddenly. Our hearts are broken for the Maurer family. Jeremey was a very active Oakley Park dad! He volunteered at various events, served as a Watch DOG Dad and was the man inside our Opie the Owl costume! We will certainly miss his kind, smiling face at Oakley Park. Thank you for keeping Jessica, Henry and Anna in your hearts!

Oakley is one step closer...

Oakley has officially completed her training and will be ready to join us at Oakley Park in August! She is settling into her new life at the Jeneary's (Mrs. Jeneary is one of our 4th grade teachers). Oakley is doing great...she is getting to know her new family which includes Violet (the Jeneary's chocolate lab).

We are looking for (local) business to sponsor the following things to help support Oakley:

  • Grooming services
  • Veterinarian care
  • And food!

Please contact me (Kristin Froning) if you know of a business that might be interested in helping support Oakley!

Field Day Fun

What a difference a day can make! We were so thankful that we were able to reschedule our All School Field Trip/Field Day to allow for lots of fun in the sun! It was a great day to celebrate as a WHOLE school! Field day events (thank you to Mrs. Grinnell and Mrs. VanHulle) along with bounce houses and playtime at Scarlet's Playground made for a fun (and tiring) day!

We couldn’t have done this without the an amazing crew of parent volunteers. We had about 380 kids and over 100 chaperones. We know that there were several volunteer who were unable to join us due to the date change. We thank you all and look forward to more adventure next year!

An event like this takes a lot of time to plan. There are so many parts that need to coordinate from finding a venue, coordinating transportation and coming up with stations that the kids would enjoy to name only a few. Thank you to our PTA President Jessica Maurer long with board members Debbie O'Rouke, Bobby Sue Young, Jessica Waxman, Sarah Garrison, Karina Ortega and Val Novaes.

Girls on the Run

Congratulations to our Girls on the Run team! Despite chilly temps and little mist in the air, we had a great morning at Lake St. Clair Metropark running in the Girls on the Run 5K event! Thank you to our amazing coaches for volunteer their time to coach this team: Mrs. Linda Grinnell, Mrs. Julie Fegely and Ms. Abbie Wonzy! The team practiced every Monday and Wednesday since early April. Practices included activities to build confidence and other important life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and physical activity.

Principal's Survey for Parents

It continues to be such a honor to serve the Oakley Park school community! As we conclude the 2021-2022 school year, your feedback on my leadership is very important to me. Each year, I survey our parents/guardians and then use your feedback for reflection and to develop goals for the coming year. Thank you for sharing your feedback as it will help me to better serve our school community! Please consider taking the following survey linked below.

Construction Update

Our staff continues to pack in preparation for the "big move"! Our building must be essentially empty to allow the interior work to begin as we end our year on June 10. This past weekend, the moving company spent the morning at Oakey Park and we filled one storage bin with hundreds of boxes and some miscellaneous furniture!

Scope of work:

  • New lighting throughout the building
  • Media Center renovation
  • Gymnasium addition
  • Restroom upgrades/improvements
  • New carpet throughout
  • New Roof
  • Entrance Canopy Modifications
  • Security Upgrades
  • Network Upgrades
  • Cafeteria Renovations (current gymnasium will be the new cafeteria)
  • Music Room Renovations (the current cafeteria will be the new music room)

Optional COVID testing now available at the ESC

The District is now offering optional COVID testing to our staff, students, and parents. Both Rapid and PCR tests are available. The testing will take place at the Educational Services Center (850 Ladd Road, Building D Walled Lake, MI 48390) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-7 p.m.

The COVID testing staff, provided by a third party, will be responsible for letting people in the side door on the south side of the building.

· If you have insurance, your insurance provider will be billed.

· If you do not have insurance, there is a cost of $110.00 for a PCR test and $50.00 for a rapid test - This comes as a result of the Federal Government no longer providing funding for testing.

There will be signage placed both inside and outside of the building. To set up an appointment for testing, please complete this requisition form.
